(More customer reviews)Prior to making this purchase I have spent a lot of time calling local "big box" appliance stores and getting quotes over the phone by local appliance repair shops around my area in hopes of finding a good deal on the replacement of this item. I was even given a quote by one local appliance repairman of over $200 just to order the part and do the install. I knew I needed my oven back but I really didn't want to spend several hundred dollars on the repair either. After searching a few "how to" sites around the web I was pleasantly surprised to find that the replacement of the element was actually not nearly as difficult or expensive as I had originally thought it would be.
I removed my old element to measure the legnth and width then located my oven serial number to cross reference a suitable replacement part. I have a older GE oven so instinctively I went to their manufacturers website first in my attempt to locate the replacement that I needed. The online price for the part was more than $65 and with tax and an additional s&h cost of $19.95 I was now looking at spending nearly $100 total and having to wait an additional 2 weeks for shipping. It was better than the $200 I was quoted by the repairman but needless to say I was far from being satisfied.
After some more searching around the web and doing many price comparisons I ended up where I knew I should have started in the first place...right here at Amazon. With prices as much as $75 elsewhere this was BY FAR the best price I found anywhere. The item came much sooner than expected and in perfect condition. The install took me less than five minutes and I now have an oven which works just like new and I'm happily back to making my favorite dinners again.
