(More customer reviews)I've used a CookTek 1800 for 4 years. As a cook, I was unable to accomodate myself to an anemic electric range. By the way, the oven is excellent, even if the burners are slow and underpowered. The CookTek changed all that. It's gets realy hot! Being far more efficient than the plain old fashioned resitive burners in the stove makes the difference, even though my cooktop is of relatively low power being designed to use 120 volt outlets. It simmers like a dream, changes temperatures like a wizard, far faster than any other method of cooking. I swear by it. The company's warranty and repair procedures are very fair. I imagine they have to be since these units are designed for commercial use.
There are only two drawbacks. Both seem minor to me. First, like every other electrical appliance in the kitchen, induction cook tops are not perfectly reliable. Mine have failed twice over the last four years. Second, because of the mandatory cooling fan enclosed in the table top hob, it's a bit noisy.
One more advantage makes me willing to overlook these annoyances. I live in an apartment in California. When I want to grill, I simply take my CookTek onto the balcony, put it on a small table and top it with a heavy cast-iron grill. I love it!
