(More customer reviews)I purchased two sets (oven mitt and pot holder) for my mother and significant other to replace their existing (cheap and worn) mitts. They both loved the ergonomics and appearance/styling of the neoprene and it fit their hands well. However, the matching pot holder is designed for medium to large female hands and did not fit my significant other's small hands well (tends to slide out of her hand).
I would give the oven mitt 5 stars, but the neoprene is NOT stable at 450+F (description says "up to 500F"). After regularly using the mitt for over a month, my significant other recently grabbed a cookie sheet in our [calibrated] oven at 450F and it slightly melted the neoprene side of the mitt. My recommendation is to avoid touching 400+F pans/sheets to the neoprene and only contact the rubber grip, which is 500F safe.

(More customer reviews)Maybe garlic squoosher would be a better description--lay the mat on the counter, fold it over your garlic clove, and give it a whack. Then reveal your garlic clove, ready for hand-peeling, without a knife. I agree that this use pales in comparison with use as a jar opener (you'll throw those little rubber disks away), potholder, and counter protector.
However, because I often take my hot meal to the computer, on my lap, the best use I've found for these mats, which don't conduct heat, is as a layer under my dinner plate. You may use it either as a layer over another plate to prevent heat conduction (because the mat is tacky, there are no plate-sliding surprises) or directly on your lap.

(More customer reviews)I started using these in culinary school. Our chefs used them. A key is that they have separated fingers which allows you greater control in preparation than traditional mitts. However, due to their woven design, they are not as heat resistant as some heavier duty, Kevlar style gloves. Also, like any glove, if they get wet at all, the heat resistance goes way down.
Having said all that, if baking or prepping at a standard baking or roasting range (350 to 400), I always use these gloves first. If I am retrieving something that's been broiling or cooking at very high heat (500 in a a home oven or in a very hot commercial kitchen), I am more careful when picking up that hot of an item.
For home use, I think they're very good.

I cook everything on the grill in the summer,, and looked online at lots of BBQ mitts, for something that would be flexible enough to grab veggie baskets, fish baskets, tongs, spatulas - all the tools I use, AND keep my hands/arms up to my elbows protected from the heat. These are perfect - like any mitts thought, if the pot is hot enough you WILL be able to feel the heat a little through them, but I find that they work great - and the multi-dot pattern is very fun...
