(More customer reviews)I bought this lantern because it was small and I like the bright light these lanterns throw, and the coleman hiss for nostalgic reasons. The size difference between this and the larger dual fuel one wasn't clear to me, so I ordered that by mistake first, and returned it at small cost. I like the idea of a case to protect it, anyway.
The first time I used this one, it worked fine. It doesn't throw a blinding light, but a fully satisfying one -- good for its size, I'm not disappointed. Packing it out in the case was the problem; it worked well to the car, but back to the house the bottom fell out, the lantern dropped and broke both the glass and the mantels. I think the sides of the plastic case got compressed in the car packing and that's all it takes to release the base. I'll replace the parts at unknown cost and I'll think twice before I carry it again.

Coleman Two-Mantle Propane Lantern with Case Review

(More customer reviews)Used this for the first time this past weekend, so I've only had limited experience so far. (I'll update this review if I run into a problem later.) Some brief highlights:
* The lantern works quite well. It puts out a good deal of light and is well constructed.
*Like other reviewers, I am concerned about the possibility of cross threading the soft aluminum header in the lantern versus the propane tanks. When attached the propane, take your time and be careful not to over tighten.
* I think it is well worth the money to buy the version with the hard case. It is a nice case, easy to put the lantern away and makes is great to pack.
* Like any propane product, there is some propane "hiss" while it burns, but I didn't find it bothersome. Possibly I expected some, so wasn't surprised.
* This lantern does NOT have a ignition built in,so you have to use a match or a small torch, but it was easy enough to light.
Overall, a good lantern. We'll see how it holds up with time. The only reason for the 4stars instead of 5 is the issue with the soft aluminum threads.
August 2010 Follow Up: Still using it and it is working great! We don't camp all that frequently, so I won't say we've given this a hard workout, but it gets used each summer and is always up for the task. Still strongly suggested.

(More customer reviews)I think that a 75 watt equivalency is about right. In my experience, though, the normal 2 mantle Colemans in comparison are only about 100 watts. This lantern, cmopared to other Coleman white gas lanterns, is more compact, light, and very sturdy.
The only problems, compared to a regular Coleman gas lantern, is that the gas tank is smaller, so you have to pump to maintain pressure more often. Also, because of the small gas tank, you have to refill more often, it usually lasts about 3 hours. I heard other people carry extra gas in an aluminum water bottle. It is a single mantle, and uses a different mantle than the usual 2 mantle lanterns sold by Coleman.
All in all, a good product. Sometimes when I get bored, I'll light it up on my balcony and the "hsssss" of the generator and the smell of the gas burning will bring back memories of camping.
Sigh.
