Veranda 30145 Nob Hill Outdoor Fire Pit Review

The product bills itself as being cast iron, but it is not. Although one small piece is cast iron, the rest is mostly cheap painted steel. Even worse, the packaging is not suitable and the item arrived damaged. Almost all of the styrofoam was broken and the box was badly damaged with gaping holes. As soon as I can get ahold of customer service I will return this.

CobraCo FB6132 Round Cast Iron Copper Finish Fire Pit Bowl with Screen and Cover Review

CobraCo FB6132 Round Cast Iron Copper Finish Fire Pit Bowl with Screen and Cover

My son characterized outdoor fire pits as woks, balls, or crockpots. I would add to that big, clunky, hard-to-move unattractive chimineas. This is a wok type. The bowl is a lovely beaten copper. Even with a fire burning in it, the rim is not too hot to touch, so you don't have to worry about little kids touching it and burning themselves. With this type of fire pit, the heat dissipates in all directions and cools from the bottom, so it is not as warm as a camp fire. But on your patio, you don't want it to be. It is portable enough to take along to other places. Easy to clean. I am crazy about it.

Its bronze copper colored bowl sits in a sturdy black steel base, supported by four embossed scroll metal legs. The bowl comes with a mesh screen cover finished with high temperature paint for safety, and a vinyl storage cover that protects the bowl from water and debris.
Portable Fire Bowl Can Be Taken AnywhereThe 38-pound CobraCo fire bowl is freestanding and fully portable--the bowl sits in a strong steel frame that can be moved separately. Bring the fire bowl with you to a friend's house, to a park, or on camping trips. Use it in the summer for roasting marshmallows or hot dogs, and in the fall to create a cozy gathering. The bowl is 30 inches in diameter and 12-3/4 inches tall (17 inches with the mesh cover), making it ideal for large or small fires.
Years of Safe and Easy UseThe CobraCo Round Cast Iron Copper Finish Fire Bowl comes with a wire screen cover complete with handle that is finished with high temperature paint. This way you can enjoy a hearty fire without worrying about flying sparks or embers. The fire bowl is also easy to clean--just lift the bowl and tilt the ashes into a trash container.
A vinyl cover protects the bowl from rain and leaves when it's not in use. The cover also makes transporting the fire bowl easy. The bowl is easily assembled, and its metal construction is designed to last. For user convenience, all necessary hardware and instructions are included.
Remember to always check with the local township authorities on fire pit guidelines. Never use a fire pit indoors, on a wood deck, or other flammable surfaces such as dried grass or leaves.

Weber 2726 Wood Burning Fireplace Review

Weber 2726 Wood Burning Fireplace

I had shopped around for a patio fireplace for a couple of years. I didn't like any of the ones sold in the chain stores (Lowes, Home Depot, Target, Sears, etc.). They were poorly built and looked like they would rust out quickly. The more quality built ones were too expensive for what essentially is just a fire ring. I stumbled across the Weber Wood Burning Fireplace and after a little research purchased it. Like all things Weber, it isn't the most flashy or even the best but it is well designed, sturdy, and should last for years. We have used ours once and I will share a number of observations and comments on previous reviews.
First, the small aluminum bowl underneath the fire bowl is not an ash catcher. It is a heat shield. This fireplace should not be used on a wood or composite deck. We have a brick patio and it is safely used there.
Second, where we live (Central, OH) there is no need for a screen around the fireplace. Perhaps in more fire prone areas it would be a good idea, but then again, should you have an open fire in those areas? For my uses a screen is not useful or needed and would just make adding fuel more difficult.
Third, to the commenter who said the fireplace is too smokey, it's the green wood you burned that produced the smoke, not the fireplace. I used well seasoned wood as anyone should and it produced about as much smoke as one would expect.
Fourth, you do not need to use the lid but there is one major advantage to doing so when the weather is cool: the lid helps direct heat down rather than allowing it all to rise quickly. In other words, it keeps more heat down at chair level when you're sitting around the fireplace.
Fifth, the lid does indeed smother the fire quickly. The lid is just tight enough to smother the fire. That's a huge plus since it means you don't have to wait until the fire dies out on its own to go inside. Nor do you have to douse the fire with water to put it out. In the case of this product, I'd recommend you don't do that anyway unless you want to ruin the porcelain finish.
Sixth, it took about 30 minutes to assemble. Even though the handles are wooden, you will still need heavy gloves to move the lid out of the way and move the riser. I have the 2010 model and the handles are sturdy and solid.
