Wood Burning Fire Pit - Portable, Round, & Steel - Mountains & Trees Design Review

Wood Burning Fire Pit - Portable, Round, and Steel - Mountains and Trees Design
Average Reviews:

Fantastic Product. Very easy to use and cleaning it is every bit as easy as they say, no shoveling ashes and old logs out, just let it cool then dump the ash into the trash can. The construction is very sturdy and the art work on the shell is simply spectacular! I love my fire pit and the mountain night scene design I chose. If the rest of their shells look as good as the my mountain scene shell I have, I might just need to order a couple more exterior design shells to go with my liner! Love the product, ease of use, simplicity, and portability. So far, I have been really impressed with my pit from fire pit patio. It looks like it should hold up well for many years to come as well. I will write another review at the end of the season after I have put it to extensive use!

After struggling for years to get a consistently great fire in both the fireplace and the charcoal grill, I bought the FireDragon. And it works better than I ever expected! If the wood is wet or if its humid, just a few puffs of air and the embers are glowing, without flying about the room and scaring me half to death. It's so easy I can't believe it took me this long to try it! It is the perfect length and keeps you from getting too close to the flames. I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to get a fire going quickly and safely.

Coleman Pack-Away Portable Fireplace Grill Review

Coleman Pack-Away Portable Fireplace Grill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Nicely made, well thought out, and works perfectly! Last night my son and I built a nice toasty campfire using this IN THE RAIN and had a great time. When you're done using it (cooled off and cleaned), it packs up neatly into a compact storage bag. There's plenty of extra room inside the bag to store some newspaper and a few fire building essentials like matches, a hatchet, and gloves.
HINT: The trick to building a successful campfire in a bowl shaped fireplace like this (or even in a regular fire pit located on the ground) is to provide plenty of airflow to the fire. To accomplish this, start by placing a couple of small (3" to 4" diameter) logs a few inches apart and parallel to each other in the bottom. Build your fire on top of these logs so air the can circulate underneath. Crumple up some newspaper between the logs, then stack thin dry kindling in the shape of a tee pee over the newspaper. Light the newspaper and once the kindling catches well, start stacking 1" to 2" diameter pieces of dry firewood on top of the kindling and continue to add larger pieces as the fire will permit. In no time you'll have a roaring fire and a nice bed of glowing coals will develop on the bottom of the bowl.
Follow up post April 2010:
We just got back from a vacation with our travel trailer at an out-of-the-way desert RV park in southeastern California and we used our little portable Coleman fire pit about half a dozen times while staying there. It was a huge hit with family, friends, and even some strangers we invited over to join us one night around the campfire. I had several people inquire where I got it and how much it costs. We had roaring flames at the start of each evening, and when we let the fire die down to a nice bed of glowing coals, we roasted marshmallows and made s'mores.
Due to all the heat and flames, the black paint on the screen cover has all but turned a dull grey, but we could care less... functionally it does the job and you can't see the color in the dark anyway! No paint could withstand the heat and flames we've subjected that screen to. The stainless steel pan seems to be holding up well, and we've had it hot enough at times that it's glowed red in the darkness. The folding stand still looks good as new... no discoloration of the paint.
In summary, this portable fire pit is a true winner... lightweight, compact, and convenient.

Blue Rhino GAD860SP LP Gas Outdoor Firebowl with Slate/Marble Mantel Review

Blue Rhino GAD860SP LP Gas Outdoor Firebowl with Slate/Marble Mantel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great outdoor fire pit for the price. Sometimes Walmart has it cheaper and sometimes Amazon does. It is worth checking them both as they both ship directly from Blue Rhino to your home. Also, the same fire pit is sold under the names Blue Rhino and UniFlame.
Once it is put together it is very sturdy and easy to use. The fire puts out a lot of heat and flame. The mantel is a nice size leaving plenty of room for drinks, plates, bottles, feet, etc. The lava rocks and fake logs looked a lot better than I thought they would. Overall it is a beautiful fire pit.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
(many of these are mentioned in other reviews, but they will save you a lot of hassle and time)
TIME: It says 1 hour but plan on 2 hours. Only a person who had put together about 5 of these perviously would be able to do it in an hour.
LOCATION: Plan to build it close to where you are going to use it as it is heavy to move once built. It can be easily moved by two strong people, but it would be hard for one person to move it any distance.
CARDBOARD: The is one large flat square piece of cardboard that is in the box with the top. Save this piece and use it to lay on the ground while building. Most of the building you will do with the top upside down and having this underneath will protect it from scratches and make it easy to slide around if needed.
INSTRUCTIONS: The instructions are good, but are mainly just pictures. There is very little detail provided. So you MUST carefully examine each picture as you build it, noting the number of holes on top versus the bottom, the direction of pieces and the exact screw needed. It is very easy to start putting a piece together to only realize that you messed up and need to take it a part and re-do it.
SCREW PACKAGE: A nice screw package is provided labeling each group of screws A,B,C, etc so you know which ones to use where. DOUBLE CHECK the labeling. On my package the A screws were labeled B and vice versa. I ended up using the allen screws where I was suppose to use the philips head screws and I ended up having to re-do the first couple of steps. Verify on the picture whether they want you to use the allen screws or philips head screws. Basically you will use the allen screws to attach the sides to the top, and you will use the philips head screws for everything else.
SCREW TIGHTENING: Almost every review mentions this advice and it is very important. When attaching a section together, first partially screw the screws in and once it is al attached, THEN tighten them down. The holes often do not line up perfectly and you will need a little "play" to line them up before tightening. The MOST IMPORTANT time to follow this is when you attach the sides to the top. DO NOT TIGHTEN all of the allen screws which are used to attach the sides to the top until you have ALL of the sides partially screwed in... then tighten everything down. If you don't follow this you will not be able to get all of the screws to match up to the holes. Also, on some pieces I found it useful to have a pair of pliers or hammer to bend some of the pieces a little so that the holes line up.
TANK COVER: A nice black vinyl tank cover is provided. It is easiest to put this on from the bottom upward and not from the top down.
TANK HOSE: I found it easiest to attach the hose to the tank and then rotate the tank clockwise a bit to tighten the hose up. This enables the hose to wrap closely around the tank and thus make it fit so that the door closes easily.
FIRE PIT COVER: A nice fitting cover is provided for the fire pit and even includes a little extra room at top to allow for the fake logs. This cover is a very thin and cheap vinyl. Be very careful when you put it on (especially if it is cold) as it will tear VERY EASILY at the corners. I would recommend turning the cover inside-out and reinforcing the edges and corners with duct tape first. Then use the cover as normal with the tape on the inside protecting the edges and corners. If you don't do this you will eventually tear the cover.
STARTING THE FIRE: Many have noted this as well, but it is easy to overlook. It does NOT start the same as a typical gas grill. To start the fire turn the knob to the start position and HOLD IT IN. While holding it in, press the electric starter. You must keep holding it in until it lights up (this can take a few seconds) and then you will need to KEEP HOLDING IT IN until the fire gets going. If you let go too soon it will just go out.
WINE: Don't keep a bottle of wine on the table top for very long as it will heat it up pretty fast if the fire is going...and who likes warm wine..ugh.
Overall this is an awesome product at a great price. The shipping was very fast (only a few days) and the item came in one large box. If you are patient and follow the above directions (or have a friend/relative who is) you will have it built and be using it to warm yourself in no time at all.

The product bills itself as being cast iron, but it is not. Although one small piece is cast iron, the rest is mostly cheap painted steel. Even worse, the packaging is not suitable and the item arrived damaged. Almost all of the styrofoam was broken and the box was badly damaged with gaping holes. CobraCo FB6132 Round Cast Iron Copper Finish Fire Pit Bowl with Screen and Cover Review

CobraCo FB6132 Round Cast Iron Copper Finish Fire Pit Bowl with Screen and Cover
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My son characterized outdoor fire pits as woks, balls, or crockpots. I would add to that big, clunky, hard-to-move unattractive chimineas. This is a wok type. The bowl is a lovely beaten copper. Even with a fire burning in it, the rim is not too hot to touch, so you don't have to worry about little kids touching it and burning themselves. With this type of fire pit, the heat dissipates in all directions and cools from the bottom, so it is not as warm as a camp fire. But on your patio, you don't want it to be. It is portable enough to take along to other places. Easy to clean. I am crazy about it.

Portable Fire Bowl Can Be Taken AnywhereThe 38-pound CobraCo fire bowl is freestanding and fully portable--the bowl sits in a strong steel frame that can be moved separately. Bring the fire bowl with you to a friend's house, to a park, or on camping trips. Use it in the summer for roasting marshmallows or hot dogs, and in the fall to create a cozy gathering. The bowl is 30 inches in diameter and 12-3/4 inches tall (17 inches with the mesh cover), making it ideal for large or small fires.
Years of Safe and Easy UseThe CobraCo Round Cast Iron Copper Finish Fire Bowl comes with a wire screen cover complete with handle that is finished with high temperature paint. This way you can enjoy a hearty fire without worrying about flying sparks or embers. The fire bowl is also easy to clean--just lift the bowl and tilt the ashes into a trash container.
A vinyl cover protects the bowl from rain and leaves when it's not in use. The cover also makes transporting the fire bowl easy. The bowl is easily assembled, and its metal construction is designed to last. For user convenience, all necessary hardware and instructions are included.

Deckmate Provincial Fire Pit with Lid Review

Deckmate Provincial Fire Pit with Lid
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered this fire pit because it was the least expensive and one of the smaller of the ones which came with a flat cover with which to convert the pit into a small table. I liked the design, and brushed aside the reviewer who stated that their fire pit arrived with a dent, thinking that it couldn't happen again. That was my mistake - my fire pit also arrived with a dent. Like the other reviewer, I was able to bend the thin metal back with pliers, and like them, it is not entirely straight, which means that the cover does not rest evenly on the fire pit. Also, the round rim comes in four pieces which do not attach smoothly together, making for gaps between two of the four connections. I cannot fix this with pliers; the alignment is fixed by where the pre-drilled holes used to attach the legs are placed. In short, cheap in all ways. If you want the least expensive fire pit with a table (by almost 100 USD), this is your fire pit. if it is more important to have one that is put together evenly, then I suggest you spend the extra money for a better built fire pit.

We love the look of our new Copper Fireplace, and we have already spent several chilly evenings outside enjoying the warmth and crackling noise of the fire. It was on back order when we ordered it but we received it much sooner than promised; we did have a problem with the door not wanting to open all the way to put firewood in; I called the company, talked to a very nice, pleasant, real live person, who immediately offered to send out a replacement piece, which arrived within a week. I am very pleased with the product and the company.

Lightning Nuggets N100SEB Firestarters Super Economy Box of Fire-Starting Nuggets, 100 Count
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this product when the gentleman that installed our replacement
fire box demonstrated how easy it is to start a fire with them. Compared
to other products this is very inexpensive, less than $0.30 a nugget. Some
products, like paste, blocks, and sticks are three to five times more expensive than the nuggets. Best of all they work with small wood for a
quick start, then add the bigger stuff. You can, and I do, carry these in your backpack and/or car in case you get stranded; I usually put a couple in a small 'Ziploc' plastic bag along with a small box of matches.

Quickly and safely start any indoor or outdoor fire, in any season, with this box of 100 fire-starting nuggets. The non-toxic environmentally safe pine-scented nuggets have an unlimited shelf life and feature a blend of highly resinous, pulverized pitchwood sawdust and food-grade paraffin wax. Best of all, each nugget lights easily and burns strong for 15 minutes minimum, which means it only takes one round-shaped nugget to start the fire--no need for newspaper and kindling or messy lighter fluids or gels. The fire-starting nuggets leave behind no residue and can be safely used in fireplaces, fireplace inserts, wood stoves, and pellet stoves, as well as in barbeques and campfires. They make it easy to enjoy a nice fire without the hassle of getting it started. They also make a great addition to an emergency kit or backcountry survival kit. Weber 2726 Wood Burning Fireplace Review

Weber 2726 Wood Burning Fireplace
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had shopped around for a patio fireplace for a couple of years. I didn't like any of the ones sold in the chain stores (Lowes, Home Depot, Target, Sears, etc.). They were poorly built and looked like they would rust out quickly. The more quality built ones were too expensive for what essentially is just a fire ring. I stumbled across the Weber Wood Burning Fireplace and after a little research purchased it. Like all things Weber, it isn't the most flashy or even the best but it is well designed, sturdy, and should last for years. We have used ours once and I will share a number of observations and comments on previous reviews.
First, the small aluminum bowl underneath the fire bowl is not an ash catcher. It is a heat shield. This fireplace should not be used on a wood or composite deck. We have a brick patio and it is safely used there.
Second, where we live (Central, OH) there is no need for a screen around the fireplace. Perhaps in more fire prone areas it would be a good idea, but then again, should you have an open fire in those areas? For my uses a screen is not useful or needed and would just make adding fuel more difficult.
Third, to the commenter who said the fireplace is too smokey, it's the green wood you burned that produced the smoke, not the fireplace. I used well seasoned wood as anyone should and it produced about as much smoke as one would expect.
Fourth, you do not need to use the lid but there is one major advantage to doing so when the weather is cool: the lid helps direct heat down rather than allowing it all to rise quickly. In other words, it keeps more heat down at chair level when you're sitting around the fireplace.
Fifth, the lid does indeed smother the fire quickly. The lid is just tight enough to smother the fire. That's a huge plus since it means you don't have to wait until the fire dies out on its own to go inside. Nor do you have to douse the fire with water to put it out. In the case of this product, I'd recommend you don't do that anyway unless you want to ruin the porcelain finish.
Sixth, it took about 30 minutes to assemble. Even though the handles are wooden, you will still need heavy gloves to move the lid out of the way and move the riser. I have the 2010 model and the handles are sturdy and solid.
