(More customer reviews)This is a useful flame tamer for a gas stove (I don't have electric). We use it to disperse heat evenly and warm up foods in ceramic casserole dishes. Using the stove-top instead of the oven frees up much needed room in the oven. Comes with a handy detachable metal lift that should not be attached when the flame is on - only to revome the reducer after the flame has been turned off.

(More customer reviews)The good news is: this product keeps food from sticking to flimsy pots. The bad news is: I couldn't get the sticker off the bottom of it, so it burned and smelled bad. More annoying: the metal of the simmer plate itself seems to flake and burn, leaving charred bits on the stove.

(More customer reviews)I've been using my diffuser for about 10 years now. Sure enough, when you first fire up the heat, there is some smoke. It'll pass quickly enough if you actually use it the first time. On the other hand, if you fire it up, panic when you see the smoke and shut it off, then it will do the same the second time... and so on. The odor (after the smoke era) is subtle but you're aware of it. I found after about 4 years the wooden handle got loose due to the wood gradually turning to charcoal. But it doesn't come off.
Now after all that being said; it works perfectly! I've been very happy with the performance of this diffuser. It allows for mild heating of the most delicate sauces without fear of scorching. And, as it has a handle, you can move it easily as well as perform the TIP below.
Considering the pricepoint, it is quite the deal.
TIP: When using this to continue heating something at a very low simmer, preheat it by firing up one side first, then flip it over and lower the heat. It will save the 'catch-up' time to keep the simmer.

The gas burners do not go low enough to simmer. I had checked all kinds of websites and stores over the past couple of years to no avail. (More customer reviews)These burner plates work very well. I was tired of getting ugly ring marks on my pots and tea kettle, so I ordered these plates. They evenly distribute heat, so if you have a pot or pan that's in between the small and large size on your range, you can still cook food perfectly. It helps eliminate hot spots on my warped aluminum griddle and it works like a dream when used with cast iron cookware! Plus, they keep the range top much cleaner. Once you reach your desired heat, you can reduce the heat by a third and continue cooking/boiling your food; this conserves energy. All in all, a great product. I would highly recommend these plates. The cost of shipping is equal to the cost of the burners themselves - which seems ridiculous - but they are cast-iron and heavy; I used a gift certificate so it didn't seem too bad. I haven't been able to find these in stores (the aluminum ones are decorative only), but knowing what I know now, I would gladly purchase these again and pay the crazy shipping rate. [...]
