Bodum Stainless-Steel Fondue with Glass Insert Review

Bodum Stainless-Steel Fondue with Glass Insert
Average Reviews:

This is the best set I have seen so far. The glass insert makes it easy and quick to change from oil to cheese or chocolate. Clean up couldn't be easier because everything is dishwasher safe. The review states that cheese fondue is best prepared on the stove and then poured into the glass insert, but I have melted it in the glass every time and it has always been perfect.

The Original Whirley Pop Stovetop Popcorn Popper Gourmet Set Review

The Original Whirley Pop Stovetop Popcorn Popper Gourmet Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have about 10 pop corn poppers, Air blower type, Microwave types, stove top types and THIS IS THE BEST of them all. I use much less oil, 1 teaspoon per batch like the advertisement says. Every cornel pops in every batch. I have never had any burned corn either. The popper is easy to rinse clean. I have popcorn at least 4 times per week and by far, this is the best popper I have ever had and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. (I have a gas stove and have not tried it on an electric stove so results may vary) If you like popcorn, buy this popper!!!

Farberware Classic 5/8-Quart Butter Warmer Review

Farberware Classic 5/8-Quart Butter Warmer

Perfect! This is of course good to warm butter or make a little bitty sauce - but who does that every day? We use it to heat the cream for our coffee, reheat the cold tea or soup, and make real hot chocolate last thing at night. Good balance on the stove and cleans up easy. Cute too!

This little pot is perfectly designed for the melting and pouring of butter, or maybe chocolate sauce...It has a nicely weighted base, so unlike most mini saucepans this one doesn't tip over, even when empty. The even heating across the bottom ensures smooth melting and the spout enables you to pour neatly.

RoadPro RPSL-350 12V 1.5 Quart Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

The 12 v crock pot is of great use to us. We live full time in our RV and can use the power of the sun instead of electric or LP or generator. How nice to have a little freedom from being chained to the system. Great for truckers. Ah fresh BBQ chicken or pork with just the cost of the pot and the food. Not a foolish product at all.

Pyrex Prepware 2-Cup Measuring Cup, Clear with Red Measurements Review

Pyrex Prepware 2-Cup Measuring Cup, Clear with Red Measurements
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I needed a small measuring cup and decided to purchase a Pyrex brand one because I already had a nice old large quart sized Pyrex measuring cup that had outlasted many other measuring cups which I got tired of replacing constantly. To make sure that my new measuring cup would last, I did some investigation on the new "Pyrex" brand of glassware. Corning Glass Works the company that manufactured the Pyrex line had sold the name to another company in the late 90s and there were reports of this newer glassware exploding/breaking. The explosions were a result of the new glassware being made of a different type of glass compared to the vintage Pyrex glassware which was made of borosilicate glass (the same type used in laboratory glassware abused by students and scientists). It was also a result of users not following instructions from the manufacturer (instructions who needs instructions? Uh oh... it blew up).
But some people are used to using the old Pyrex glassware in ways that the newer type of glass would not be compatible with. That type of usage almost always involved thermal shock or rapid change in temperature such as placing hot glassware onto a cold surface, putting hot glassware with burnt-on food into the sink to soak, placing refrigerated glassware into a preheated oven, etc. The borosilicate glass originally used to make Pyrex glassware had a low thermal expansion coefficient which made it more resistant to rapid temperature changes compared to the new tempered soda lime glass now in use. It is understandable that the company had to cut costs by using a low-cost type of glass in order to survive, but they should also remember that consumers have a habit of using their product in a certain way (hey habits are hard to break).
With that problem sorted out, I purchased the measuring cup and read the instructions/warnings before using it.
For most uses in the kitchen, the new measuring cup works great on most types of ingredients. It also has the clear measurement markings in metric and US units plus a comfortable handle similar to older Pyrex designs. The only issue I had was how to measure out boiling hot liquids for something like making Jello because this would mean that the glass is being exposed to a rapid temperature change. The way around this problem is to start with the liquid at room temperature, measure out the amount needed, and heating it up in the microwave. It felt inconvenient to have to wait for liquids to cool for measuring and then reheating it, but I had to break the old routine of pouring hot liquids into a measuring cup.
In any case, this is still a good measuring cup that is still made in the United States (hooray for supporting domestic jobs & reducing the amount of fuel used to transport it to consumers). The measuring cup is made of thick glass with bold, easy to read markings and a solid handle. It is also easier to clean than plastic measuring cups that tend to stain and absorb odors. Just remember not to expose the measuring cup to rapid temperature changes and it should last just as long as any other piece of old Pyrex glassware. Though I still wish Corning or World Kitchen would produce a measuring cup made of durable borosilicate glass.

Renowned Pyrex glass measuring cups are fantastic tools in any kitchen. Made in the USA of ultra-durable, non-porous glass, the measuring cup won't absorb odors, flavors, or stains, nor will it impart them. Comfortable and easy to use, the measuring cup is made with an ergonomically designed handle and easy-to-read red markers. It has a 2-cup capacity, great for most basic recipes. While it is dishwasher safe, it's best to wash the cup by hand since, over time, the dishwasher can affect the measurement markers on the exterior.

More Counter Space Review

More Counter Space
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great product for my small kitchen. It really does provide extra counter space where I had none before. It looks pretty nice (though I'd prefer to have a different color.) Plenty of room on this board for large jobs and easy enough to just prop up at the back of the stove or set alongside when you need to cook something. Unfortunately, you can't leave it on your stove-top while something is baking because it will warp from the heat. I would pay twice--or even triple--the price to have one of these that's heat-safe--and my rating would change form 4 stars to 5+++++!!!!

"More Counter Space" cutting board is an exciting, unique new product that can rest on your stove top and instantly add more than 4 square feet of usable counter space to any kitchen. It's a serving tray with handles. It's a 20"x30" portable craft station. It's where the Thanksgiving turkey is carved and the juices don't run all over your counter. It's a project area for jigsaw puzzles & board games. It's a portable fish cleaning station for dad and a food prep area for grilling that you take right to the grill. It's a place for the kids to do messy painting and work with Legos or Play-Doh. It's a serving platter for pizza. A monster cutting board for the salad lover. The list of uses just goes on and on. "More Counter Space" is so versatile; the more you use it, the more uses you will find for it.

Norpro Stainless-Steel Holder with Cotton Cooking Twine Review

Norpro Stainless-Steel Holder with Cotton Cooking Twine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a basic item with a basic function, keep the twine clean and in order. It does this well and looks great on the counter.
If you don't think you need kitchen twine, get this and be amazed at how much you use it. Beyond just tying meats, this is great for tying cheesecloth to make greek yogurt, tie the bread bag shut when the twist-tie breaks, tie the base cupbords shut when a child is in your house for a visit, hang mistletoe, tie together herb budles, etc. I never realized how handy it is to have bits of sturdy twine ready for use.
It has become a real household staple.

Cook N Home 6.5 Quart Stainless Steel Popcorn Popper Stovetop Review

Cook N Home 6.5 Quart Stainless Steel Popcorn Popper Stovetop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Basically, they're all the same, Cook N Home, Back to Basics, Whirly Pop - probably all made in the same factory in China. And they're all crap, cheap manufactured devices that barely function but kinda get the job done. This one and Back to Basics have metal gears, Whirly Pop has plastic, so an edge to Back to Basics, but the gears mesh poorly - after first use you'll see little particles of steel under them.
This one, the Cook N Home, is the most recent one I've tried. After two uses, the screws that hold the wooden handle in place fell out. Also, as the pot expanded with heat, the gears eventually wouldn't mesh at all unless I pushed the handle in as I turned the crank. I solved that by bending the inner side of the crank's retaining bracket closer to the gears, allowing for less play. And I'll replace the 1/2" screws that fell out with longer ones - the wooden handle doesn't come off without the screws, it just rotates freely, making it impossible to turn the popper over to empty it without grabbing some part of the pot itself.
Before this one, I had a Back to Basics aluminum popper which I bought for [...] at Kmart. Identical design, but much thinner metal. So the advantage of the more expensive stainless steel Cook N Home and Back to Basics is more solid construction and a thicker bottom. The aluminum popper had bad meshing problems with its gears as well. From what I've read of the Whirly Pops, however, the plastic gears are prone to splitting. So it may be worth ponying up for stainless. As I said earlier, it basically gets the job done, in a gear-grinding, screw-popping way.
Update - after about 4 or 5 uses, the gears no longer mesh but jam, largely because the center shaft has become wobbly. The gears are really chewed up too. It is now useless. I would change the rating to one star if I could.

Ilsa 7-Inch Cast Iron Heat Defuser Review

Ilsa 7-Inch Cast Iron Heat Defuser
Average Reviews:

It works like promised. I have a gas stove that runs on propane, producing a high flame even on simmer. This takes care of the problem giving a true simmer. There is some discoloration after you use it and it can get VERY hot - be careful after cooking.

One of the most important elements of stovetop cooking is even heat. That's one of the reasons why cooks worldwide turn to cast iron cookware.
