What an applicance!! My house was built in the 60"s and when I bought it in 1972 it came with the original electric cooktop. Gas is sooo much better, for one reason, when you want to adjust the heat you can tell by looking you've done so. And you can get a LOT of heat from the big burner and the small one is so perfect for puddings and sauces. And it is a beautiful appliance to look at. Only the stainless steel comes with the black knobs but you can buy the black knobs seperate and they are very easy to change out and what class it gives your stove. Of course, I guess we would all like to have a wolff or a viking stove but if you can't afford that this is a great stove to go with. I cannot say enough about it. I bought mine at Lowe's but just wanted to let my fellow Amazon
shoppers know this is a fantastic product!!

I bought this cooktop a few months back and me and my wife love it. Just like any other appliance you buy you must take care of it. I say this because I often read reviews on cookware, ect, where users have taken the appliance right up to the limits on a regular basis and expect consistent performance. To me this product is about all that you can expect out of a stainless steel cooktop for the price and I have no real complaints. Very good product that I would guy again.

A great cooktop. I installed it myself and it was not difficult to do. Just have the right wrench. The cooktop looks great and performs wonderfully. So much easier to clean than the one that came with the home by the builder. A great upgrade at a very reasonable price for the quality.

I am totally dissatisfied with my Thermador hob. It has continually malfunctioned (one or more burners) do not work either the gas or the ignition. Thankfully I purchased a service warranty but really that is not much help as the various service providers that have come to repair it have to wait sometimes up to 6-months to get the replacement parts! If I could do it again I would buy any other brand but never Thermador!

Bertazzoni : Modular P36500X 36 Gas Cooktop Review

Bertazzoni : Modular P36500X 36 Gas Cooktop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this cooktop four months ago on the recommendation of an appliance dealer in our area. I think he was trying to get rid of it, because they no longer carry Bertazzoni in their showroom. There are good points and bad points, but overall I'm not particularly happy with it. It looks great, and you can't beat the price. The middle double burner does a good job boiling water. The down sides are that it doesn't simmer at all, even on the smallest burner, and it gets amazingly dirty -- even when I'm just boiling liquids (probably because it won't simmer, and everything splatters). It's not easy to clean, either. Turning it on requires some finesse, and often requires more than one try. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this cooktop. There are much better options, but you'll likely have to spend more.

BERTAZZONI cooking products originate in Emilia-Romagna, a region world-famous for its food. Precision-engineered to the highest specifications by the Bertazzoni family, who have been making high-quality ranges since the beginning of the last century, every appliance bearing the Bertazzoni name represents an unwavering commitment to quality. You now have the option of a wide-format 36-inch cooktop from the Bertazzoni Modular Series. This five-burner cooktop fits the Modular Series 48-inch cabinets. It is however suitable for your existing counter cut-out. The cooktop gives you the same great performance as the Bertazzoni Modular Series 34-inch model but greater flexibility and power. With space for large pans and casserole pots, you can cook more dishes at the same time - and be more ambitious when entertaining guests or preparing family meals. That will always be appreciated.

Bosch NGM8054UC 30 800 Series 5 Sealed Burner Gas Cooktop - NGM8054UC,Stainless
Average Reviews:

For installation I'd give this unit a 3 1/2 out of 5 It does fit into a standard 30 inch cutout (good) but the gas inlet is in the far right rear corner of the unit and that interferes with cabinet installation if the unit is offset from the cabinet as in my case. The NGM805 does also extend under the countertop more than the unit it replaced, so some cabinet surgery was needed to allow the cooktop to sit properly. The hold-down attachment hardware was not thought through very well and had to be 'modified' to work properly.
Cooking: this unit gets a 5 out of 5 in my book. Cooking control is AWESOME. That's the advantage of gas--you have INSTANT & INFINITE control of your cooking and don't have to wait for burners to cool down as on electric cooktops. The three sizes of burners let you do everything from large pots to warming chocolate and everything in between. The previous reviewer "Nice Guy" just had never worked with a gas cooktop before, indeed the very things he complained about are discussed in the user's manual ("Don't use a rounded WOK" and "Don't make the flame larger than the pot being used.") The unit doesn't deserve a lower rating because the user was unfamiliar with the physics involved. This baby cooks GREAT.
In 'chocolate warming mode' the small 5500 BTU burners can be turned down so low that I can't even see that the flame is on (I'm tall), so it's a good thing there's a light on the front panel that lets you know when the burner is on. Automatic relight works fine in case a burner is blown out.
The grates are very stable, much more so than the unit it replaced, a 22 year-old Kenmore that had grates that slipped out of position when the pot/pan was tilted for stirring or extracting grease. They were a pain to get seated into position again. With the Bosch I worry no more.
There's more effective cooking area workspace with the Bosch; the 5 burners give you more flexibility than the 4-burner competitors.
Cleanup: I give it 5 out of 5. No seams and rounded corners on the stainless top make cleanup MUCH easier than the old Kenmore unit. The burners are raised from the stainless top, keeping the burners free of overspills.
Only gripe: The control knobs stick up above the level of the grates by about a half inch, so you can bump the knob as you take a heavy pot off the cooktop if you don't lift it up. Fortunately the knobs are metal and not plastic. (A lady in the store when we looked at this unit had to replace her melted platic knobs on a different make because of this problem) With the metal knobs this shouldn't be a big problem.

GE Profile : JGP940SEKSS 30 Gas Cooktop with 4 Sealed Burners
Average Reviews:

We were very satisfied with this cooktop until someone nicked the edge of the glass surface. That led to a couple of cracks extending from the edge to two of the burners. A replacement glass is priced by GE at $750. This is glass only, not including labor, and insanely close to the price of the new cooktop.
At the moment we are living with the cracks and hoping nothing gives way unexpectedly. In the future we will only buy a stainless steel cooktop. And carefully avoid any GE product that may need a replacement part.

Average Reviews:

We bought this cooktop about 3 months ago. Loved the look and the low profile. The grates are sturdy and sit well on the surface. The knobs are easy to control and ignite. Auto electronic reignition works perfectly. Even if I were to blow the flame off (btw which takes some effort to do) it reignites very quickly automatically. This is one of the very few gas cooktops that have an LED light showing whether any of the burners is ON. This is very convenient as you can easily tell whether any of the burners is on (even if you cannot see the flame easily). Very safe, looks great and cooks great.
Another good feature is that the burners are at a very good distance from each other, allowing you to actually put 4 decent sized pans without interference. The knob positions are very intuitive as you don't have to think which knob corresponds to which burner.

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KFGS306VSS 30 Gas Cooktop with 5 Sealed Burners - Stainless Steel Review

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KFGS306VSS 30 Gas Cooktop with 5 Sealed Burners - Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

Background you can skip
We purchased our current home about 2 years ago and slowly started replacing the somewhat dated or low-quality appliances that had been left behind for us. Most of it was Frigidaire or Kenmore. Nothing wrong with that, but we wanted to get a better fridge, microwave hood, dishwasher and cooktop. This review, naturally, is about the cooktop only. The other items ware reviewed elsehwere on Amazon.
What were we looking for?
ONE - Well, first of all, we wanted HEAT: we are very much into Asian food and cook mostly in our Wok(s) (see other reviews as well!). This requires high BTU output.
TWO - We wanted an aesthetic stainless steel look, a little more like the professional Bertazzoni or Viking type cooktops.
THREE - Quality. We wanted heavy cast iron grates that would withstand heavy daily use.
FOUR - Space. We needed sufficient space around the wok to be able to cook properly on the high heat burner if using a larger wok (16" or so).
FIVE - Ergonomics. The control knobs needed to be in the front due awkward positioning in the kitchen, leaving little room on the right hand side towards the back to reach or see the knobs properly.
SIX - Finally, we needed ALL OF THE ABOVE to be squeezed into a 30" cooktop.
About this item - KFGS306VSS
After much research we decided that the KitchenAid Architect II series was the one to get. It featured 5 burners of whuch the middle burner is a 15,000 BTU burner (18,000 BTU on 36" version) whereas most cooktops in this pricerange top out at 4 burners and 12,500 BTU max.
It has the control knobs on the front and is a very industrial looking design.
The grates are heavy cast orin and you get 3 of them. All in all, this one delivered on all fronts in the specifications that we set out.
Upon receipt of the item, we found that the 1st rule of construction (closely related to Murphy's Law)applied to us as well: if something can go wrong or get complicated it will.
And it did. The CUT-OUT dimensions of this cooktop did not fit the existing (and what we believed to be standard dimensions) in our countertop. This KitchenAid requires the following:
Depth, Opening: 20 in.
Width, Opening: 29 in.
Our existing cutout was 28.5" by 19.5". Ofcourse this represented a horrendous problem in installation as we had to get the coutertop opening cut out further.
Anyways: some masking tape, a pneumatic sabre saw (14.99$) and some saws and that was solved as well.
Pros:
0 - Lots of heat from 15,000 BTU burner
0 - Well positioned (center) dual tier wok burner
0 - Full stainless look, i.e. everything except grates is stainless
0 - 5 burners, instead of the common 4 on a 30" form factor
0 - 3 cast iron grates that allow for sliding pots across the surface
Cons:
0 - Knobs are plasticized, i.e. they can melt if you put a hot pan on them
0 - No wok ring with the set, not cool as it would have been perfect with center burner and cheaper brands do include those
0 - Slightly odd form factor for cutout. Not a real problem but just a 'BE AWARE' when you have an existing kitchen cutout.
Conclusion
We are extremely pleased with this cooktop given all the features. What we did not like were the plastic knobs: they look great but I feel they could have included something better. I assume it is a heat resistant laminate/composite so I am not sure about the melting but I think it should have been solid metal. We reduced 1 star for that. The wok ring would have made this back to 5 stars, but we can't fault KitchenAid for that as only the mor expensive cooktops seems to get those included. A definite buy if have the same requirements as we put in the opening paragraph.
