(More customer reviews)What an applicance!! My house was built in the 60"s and when I bought it in 1972 it came with the original electric cooktop. Gas is sooo much better, for one reason, when you want to adjust the heat you can tell by looking you've done so. And you can get a LOT of heat from the big burner and the small one is so perfect for puddings and sauces. And it is a beautiful appliance to look at. Only the stainless steel comes with the black knobs but you can buy the black knobs seperate and they are very easy to change out and what class it gives your stove. Of course, I guess we would all like to have a wolff or a viking stove but if you can't afford that this is a great stove to go with. I cannot say enough about it. I bought mine at Lowe's but just wanted to let my fellow Amazon
shoppers know this is a fantastic product!!

The product is outstanding, despite the negative review entered above. We like the way we simply followed the directions and the installation went perfectly. (The problem the negative reviewer had ... not reading the instructions!) A big plus for us was the softening/melting feature. The stick of butter came out perfectly easy to slice but not so soft that it melted in the dish. We were quite impressed. We now have all appliances but one that are Kitchen Aid and have NEVER been disappointed. They stand behind their products and don't question any issue you might find. We first had a mixer that was a refurbished model. When we found an intermittent problem in the switch, we called, they sent another refurbished one, and arranged a pickup for the other mixer. We knew then, that if they would do this much for a refurbished model we'd try their other products. We followed with a dish washer (great!) and a range (awesome!) There are two advantages a whistling kettle has over its silent relatives. One, when your water is hot you'll know right away, making your time and your use of energy more efficient. Two, you aren't as likely to leave a kettle on the stove to boil dry - damaging the kettle and creating a safety hazard. Viking Range White Stand Mixer 7 Qt. Review

(More customer reviews)The machine died after 3 months. I am just starting to bake and was enjoying it until I taxed the Viking with bread making - not multiple loaves but just one at a time. It died very silently - no smoke or ozone/burnt motor odor - just quietly died while making cream icing with cream cheese and cream. I hit the reverse and it just started to make a gurgling noise and then was no more.
I called the company - not really the company but a repair facility in Detroit and was told the best they could do was to mail me a FedEx slip and I was responsible for boxing the unit and they would repair it.
When I suggested that they send me a box or another motor unit (I would send the current unit back) I was informed that this was not company policy. When I attempted to call Viking and when I asked to speak to corporate customer service I was directed back to the repair facility in Detroit - this happened over and over.
I mentioned that I bought the unit retail on the website they still insisted that they couldn't help me.
Cooks illustrated rated the Kitchen Aid Professional 600 as their number one choice - the Viking did not even make it into the first three best choices - I strongly agree. The Viking is more expensive and the service is lacking. And more importantly the maching is inferior.
I am considering the Hobart or the Kitchen Aid and I will keep the Viking as backup. When you buy a mixer get it from a department store that offers guarantees that include replacement units. I am going to the Sears website now.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this in March of 2009. It came with the following:Turntable, Convection grid, Crisper pan & handle, baking tray and steamer vessel.
There are so many features in here that I don't think I've used everything.
First, the Convection Microwave Oven:
De-Frost - I'm not a big menu planner so defrosting before I cook has to work quickly and efficiently for me. Apart from the usual cooking power options (High 100%, 90%, 80% etc) I can choose from Meats, Poultry, Fish, Bread, Juice & Manual. The microwave calculates the defrosting time based on the weight that I input. The manual has guidelines and pound to kilogram conversions.
Re-Heat - The options include Dinner Plate, Sauce, Soup, Pizza, Casserole, Beverage and Manual. The microwave bases the reheating on how many cups of sauce/soup/casserole/beverage is inputed and the number of slices of pizza. For example, I want to heat a cup of coffee. (Ghastly to some, I know, but I've done it) The microwave will ask you how many cups and whether you want it warm or hot. Simple & easy.
Manual Cooking - Just input the cooking power and the cooking time and you're all set!
Popcorn - Works like in other microwave ovens. Pop it based on the bag size.
Steam Cooking - The vessel comes in 3 parts: the cover, the food holder and the water container and they all fit together. I've steamed fresh vegetables, frozen vegetables and a lot of dim sum. They've all been delicious. The options are Potatoes, Fresh Vegetables, Frozen Vegetables, Fish fillets, Shrimp & Manual. Again, the microwave calculates the cooking times on how many cups and how many ounces. The steaming vessel is dishwasher safe.
Soften/Melt - The options are Butter, Margarine, Ice Cream, Cream cheese and the softening/melting time is based on how many sticks and ounces you have. We love to bake and we have a fondness for ice cream cakes so this has been so useful.
Crisper Pan Frying - This is the one feature that I've only tried a couple of times. I still like to use the old frying pan, I'll admit. I followed the guide in the manual and made an omelet.
Timer - I use this mostly when I'm making pasta on the stove top. I can have this running while the oven is cooking something else.
The Microwave converts to a Convection oven/Easy Convect. I just put the grid on the turntable. I've done smaller amounts of cookies, some chicken, baked potatoes and french fries this way.
The bottom part of this oven is the Electric Convection Oven. In "traditional" oven mode I can choose from Bake, Broil & Bread Proof. In convection mode, there's Bake, Broil & Roast. Just to give me something else to think about there's also an EasyConvect option. There's also the Options key that does the fahreinheit & celsius conversion, turns the sound on/off/high/low, dehydrates,oven temperature calibration, Sabbath mode and turn the turntable on/off.
To clean, I turn on the Self Clean Mode, choose the number of hours I want and wipe down when it's cool. The manual advises against using commercial oven cleaners.
Again, so many features. The bottom line is I've been very happy with this oven. It replaced an ancient GE that came with our house. A lot of thought went into this purchase since we also had to hire someone to chip away at a brick wall that also housed a fireplace that we wanted to keep. I chose this oven because of the brand, the stainless steel, its size & features and because I wanted the microwave oven off my counter. Notice that I mention the manual quite a bit. It has a lot of information!
Highly recommended.

OXO Good Grips Click Click Tea Kettle, Brushed Stainless Review

(More customer reviews)I usually love Oxo products, and own many different ones, from utensils to bowls to graters, etc. So when we registered for wedding gifts, we immediately looked at Oxo kettles, expecting the same good performance.
Unfortunately, this kettle has a major design flaw that is causing us to return it. About the tenth time we used the kettle, the knob came right off of the lid. When we inspected it, it is apparent that the knob was bound to detach eventually, and it cannot be reattached! Instead of being screwed on with metal, the knob is plastic throughout, and is just sort of 'stuck' onto the metal dowel that sticks up out of the lid. So there are no threads to keep it in place. With all the force that is needed to pull up on the lid to open the kettle for filling, the plastic just wears away (little black plastic shreds came off with the knob). And like I said, this was only the tenth time we'd used it.
The other three models (shown on the Oxo website) have a handle rather than a knob, so hopefully they are better designed. We will be returning this and looking at other brands.

(More customer reviews)This cookware set makes preparing meals easy - we love the balanced weight, even heating, and nonstick surfaces in both skillets and pots. We've been using daily for about a month, and here is what we've noticed:
Pros:
- HEATING: Very even (we have a gas range)
- WEIGHT: Very light and balanced (I thought they were too light to cook well, but they actually do! They are also balanced if you try to pick them up while full.)
- COOKING: Very even cooking across surface (no hot or cold spots)
- LIDS: Clear glass lids (you can boil water faster with lid on and actually see when it's ready)
- HANDLES: Silicone pads on handles help to keep the grip cooler (but I still need hot pads to fully pick pots up)
- SURFACE: Non-stick works very well. Normally stuck-on food releases easily. (But the coating is already starting to scratch - see below)
Cons:
- SCRATCHES: Non-stick is already showing small scratches even though we only use nylon & silicon utensils. Have owned these for about a month of daily use.
- BOLTS: Bolts where handles attach to cookware on inside can be difficult to clean around after, say, scrambled eggs
- SMALL SKILLETS: Skillets (8.5- and 10-inch) are smaller than they sound. (Room for one/two eggs or one pancake or one sandwich. They aren't meal-size.)
- DISHWASHER: Not technically dishwasher safe. Color fading from dishwasher. (I realize the instructions say they aren't dishwasher safe. Really? We're a family with small kids and we don't have time to hand-wash our dishes if we want to try to keep the kitchen clean. So I will live with the fading. The online description should warn that this set isn't dishwasher safe.)
Overall, a functional, pretty little set. The 3-qt deep skillet is my new favorite. I make a lot of one-dish meals, and this performs perfectly. However, I wish the set came with a bigger skillet (12-in) instead of the tiny 8.5-inch which isn't very useful.

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KFGU766VSS 36 Gas Cooktop with 5 Sealed Burners Review

(More customer reviews)We needed to replace a 15 year old modular Kitchenaid cooktop with an itme that had about the same size cutout. We wanted a stainless steel deck and at least one high-output burner plus a simmer burner. The KitchenAid seemed to fit the bill the best. Advantages include a good layout with knobs in front with plenty of room btween the burners so that you can easily put a huge (e.g. 14") frypan on the center 20,000 BTU burner with room to spare. The burners themselves look like they are easy to clean and the ignition seems stable with the gas not flowing until there is a spark. The two front burners are plenty powerful for 12" pans. There is a lockout feature but it seems like a smart 5 year old could defeat it. The stainless surface has a clear coat which I hope is durable. We clean it with spray cleaner only and it looks great and hope for the best. The center burner is probably powerful enough for a wok if you have an adaptor. One minor annoyance is that they do not recommend copper or aluminum bottom pans as this mars the cast iron grates.
In this range, the only other cooktop that made sense was the Miele. Wolf and Viking seemed pretty standard and Gaggenau, though nice looking, was almost three times the price for a marginal performance increase.

(More customer reviews)These are excellent pots- the nonstick surface is an improvement over regular old Teflon and they're heavy and spread the heat well. Gotta love the splendid red color, too!
I find these cook a bit slow, but that's a good thing; I haven't managed to overcook and mangle a single thing in these pots. The heat spreads well and stays consistent, I haven't had any "cold spot" problems. They're also a snap to clean, I like an OXO Nylon bristle dish scrubber. Nothing sticks and pots almost wash themselves.
I wish they made a 12 inch skillet; but this is a perfect starter set and easier to use than a lot of fancy pots are.

Bosch NGM8054UC 30" 800 Series 5 Sealed Burner Gas Cooktop - NGM8054UC,Stainless Review

(More customer reviews)For installation I'd give this unit a 3 1/2 out of 5 It does fit into a standard 30 inch cutout (good) but the gas inlet is in the far right rear corner of the unit and that interferes with cabinet installation if the unit is offset from the cabinet as in my case. The NGM805 does also extend under the countertop more than the unit it replaced, so some cabinet surgery was needed to allow the cooktop to sit properly. The hold-down attachment hardware was not thought through very well and had to be 'modified' to work properly.
Cooking: this unit gets a 5 out of 5 in my book. Cooking control is AWESOME. That's the advantage of gas--you have INSTANT & INFINITE control of your cooking and don't have to wait for burners to cool down as on electric cooktops. The three sizes of burners let you do everything from large pots to warming chocolate and everything in between. The previous reviewer "Nice Guy" just had never worked with a gas cooktop before, indeed the very things he complained about are discussed in the user's manual ("Don't use a rounded WOK" and "Don't make the flame larger than the pot being used.") The unit doesn't deserve a lower rating because the user was unfamiliar with the physics involved. This baby cooks GREAT.
In 'chocolate warming mode' the small 5500 BTU burners can be turned down so low that I can't even see that the flame is on (I'm tall), so it's a good thing there's a light on the front panel that lets you know when the burner is on. Automatic relight works fine in case a burner is blown out.
The grates are very stable, much more so than the unit it replaced, a 22 year-old Kenmore that had grates that slipped out of position when the pot/pan was tilted for stirring or extracting grease. They were a pain to get seated into position again. With the Bosch I worry no more.
There's more effective cooking area workspace with the Bosch; the 5 burners give you more flexibility than the 4-burner competitors.
Cleanup: I give it 5 out of 5. No seams and rounded corners on the stainless top make cleanup MUCH easier than the old Kenmore unit. The burners are raised from the stainless top, keeping the burners free of overspills.
Only gripe: The control knobs stick up above the level of the grates by about a half inch, so you can bump the knob as you take a heavy pot off the cooktop if you don't lift it up. Fortunately the knobs are metal and not plastic. (A lady in the store when we looked at this unit had to replace her melted platic knobs on a different make because of this problem) With the metal knobs this shouldn't be a big problem.

Animal Kettle Teakettles Review

(More customer reviews)I did not expect a tea kettle this adorable (and it is adorable) to actually be the best kettle I've had. What's so great about it?
1. Solid construction, I've dropped it ( empty thankfully ) and it has no dents or scratches.
2. Easy to clean, no unreachable nooks.
3. Balanced, empty or full, it doesn't tip over as some previous kettles of mine did.
4. The handle stays nearly cool to the touch, I've gotten in the bad habit of picking it up without a potholder.
5. The lid fits tightly, there is no spill even when full to the brim.
6. The harmonic whistle is pleasant and plenty loud.
7. The inside material may be teflon (I don't know, it's just smooth and not stainless steel) so it stays really clean.
8. It has a wide bottom so it heats quickly.
9. The spout is easy to open, like a little handle, I've never burned myself and I burn myself all the time.
10. The water stays warmer inside if you leave it even though the kettle itself is not that hot to the touch.
All in all, exactly what I wanted.
