Bodum Clara 59-Ounce Glass Stovetop Whistling Water Kettle Review

Bodum Clara 59-Ounce Glass Stovetop Whistling Water Kettle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had many kettles, the last two from Cuisinart (china made cheap)- they all leak, rust badly , or softer parts (whisttle, etc) melt on the gaz stove.
After a long research I settled on this "crystal clear" kettle but was so disappointed to see that the side of the kettle was ALL AROUND full of warnings in many languages. I thought it was absolutely ridiculous and ugly and I was planning to return it and gave a 2 rating.
(The edit does not allow me to change the rating which I would now put at 4, given what's out there)
Then I started on my search again moving way up in prices only to find out that the kettles I wanted are lined with tin, or nickel, etc and that none of that is entirely safe, or is it? After finding some info on the web I decided to stop my search for now.
So, I re-unpacked Clara and I am using it. The whisttle is not very loud unless the kettle is full but at least we are not absorbing all kinds of metals. So, I am keeping it. And with the steam during the boiling one does not see the writing on the side so, fine.
So hard to be a wise consumer.
UPDATE:
Clara got a crack on the spout and I had to decide whether to buy a new one but luckily I found a german made clear kettle at bedbathandbeyond that retails for $9.99. This is now my choice. I bought a second, pristine looking one to be used when I have visitors. Usage of a clear glass kettle on a gaz stove leads to marks that become difficult to clean overtime.

Clear as crystal, the Clara Water Kettle is made for those who appreciate transparency as much as design! The body and the handle of this stunning kettle are made of heat-resistant, borosilicate glass. The use of borosilicate glass in a water kettle testifies to BODUM's sensitivity to the need for natural and non-reactivematerials, which are odor and taste free and do not taint water. The Clara Water Kettle has a capacity of 1.75 l (59 oz).The Clara also features a whistle that alerts users when water has reached its boiling point. The blue accent color used in the plastic grip, the lid's silicone gasket and the whistle intensifies the impression of thewater's purity during the boiling process. The Clara can be used with electric, ceramic or gas stoves (not induction). For microwave use, the lid and whistle need to be removed. All parts are dishwasher safe.

Teavana Perfect Tea Kettle Review

I looked quite a bit around the internet to find a tea kettle for our induction cooktop. Le Creuset tea kettles were getting bad reviews (rusting!). Others had poor whistles or funny tastes, per the reviews. This kettle is stainless steel, inside and out. Nothing to rust or chip off. I was concerned that its handle would get hot, but it did not. About 800 cc of water boiled in a minute or two, but the handle was cool to the touch. The whistle is a classic whistle, perfectly adequate. So far, I am pleased with this purchase.

Chantal Enamel on Steel 1.8-Quart Timeless Teakettle Review

Chantal Enamel on Steel 1.8-Quart Timeless Teakettle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like many other reviewers of this kettle (the other reviews can be found under the other color variations of this kettle) I have experienced the problem of the malfunctioning whistle. I read the negative reviews and decided to give this kettle a go because it had the best design. I wish I had listened to the other reviewers...
When we first got the kettle, the whistle worked fine. Provided you pressed down firmly on the central kettle cover, it would let out a VERY loud whistle. After 3 weeks of use, however, it suddenly stopped working. Turns out the whistle cap no longer sits flush on the spout. When I try to reseat it, it just springs up slightly, provided a gap that prevents the whistle from working.
Final conclusion: great looking kettle, but seriously flawed spout and whistle mechanisms. I wouldn't buy this kettle if given another chance.

Le Creuset Classic Whistling Tea Kettle, 1.8 Qt. Enamel on Steel Review

Le Creuset Classic Whistling Tea Kettle, 1.8 Qt. Enamel on Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this teakettle for Christmas 2009. By April rust was evident around the lid opening, around the pouring end of the spout, and at the point the spout joined the body where there was a hairline gap in the enamel. I followed the instructions--never left water in the teakettle, never let it boil dry, didn't bump or jostle it. I contacted Le Creuset and they said to send it back at my expense and they would decide if it merited replacing. Three weeks later the replacement arrived. It is now July and every time I put the lid on the teakettle flakes of rust pop out from under the stainless steel ring around the opening. In the last few days the rust has emerged from under the ring, so I called Le Creuset again. After being put on hold twice and finally getting referred to a supervisor Le Creuset agreed to pay the shipping to return the teakettle. As compensation they will give me a credit that I can only use to buy Le Creuset products from Le Creuset at Le Creuset prices. If I want to get a stainless steel teakettle from them I have to pay an additional $35, although I could get a third enamel on steel teakettle that most likely will rust before Thanksgiving at no additional cost. What a bargain! This is a terrible product with terrible customer service.

OXO Good Grips Click Click Tea Kettle, Brushed Stainless Review

OXO Good Grips Click Click Tea Kettle, Brushed Stainless
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I usually love Oxo products, and own many different ones, from utensils to bowls to graters, etc. So when we registered for wedding gifts, we immediately looked at Oxo kettles, expecting the same good performance.
Unfortunately, this kettle has a major design flaw that is causing us to return it. About the tenth time we used the kettle, the knob came right off of the lid. When we inspected it, it is apparent that the knob was bound to detach eventually, and it cannot be reattached! Instead of being screwed on with metal, the knob is plastic throughout, and is just sort of 'stuck' onto the metal dowel that sticks up out of the lid. So there are no threads to keep it in place. With all the force that is needed to pull up on the lid to open the kettle for filling, the plastic just wears away (little black plastic shreds came off with the knob). And like I said, this was only the tenth time we'd used it.
The other three models (shown on the Oxo website) have a handle rather than a knob, so hopefully they are better designed. We will be returning this and looking at other brands.

All Clad Stainless Steel 2-Quart Whistling Tea Kettle Review

All Clad Stainless Steel 2-Quart Whistling Tea Kettle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First let me qualify this by saying I have a background in metalworking. The main reason I bought all-clad is because of the quality of their workmanship and materials. Unlike most other tea kettles I saw there is no bottom encircling seam. I haven't seen an insulated handle that I like.
I looked at the Demeyere tea kettle from Belgium, but balked because of the seam. Definitely my second choice though and I especially liked that it was a silverstone instead of a glossy finish. It also is dishwasher safe and can be used on induction stoves unlike the All Clad. I didn't see this kettle personally.
The other serious consideration was given to a $54 Oxo - no seam, wide lid that you could easily get into for cleaning, half the price. Didn't like the look of the insulated handle though. I didn't see this kettle personally unfortunately. Two Berghoff kettles in this category too.
The LeCreusets have no seam, but I wanted stainless steel. I saw these at a store.
The Alessi is made from sheet steel, has a seam, and while the insulation on the handle means no potholder required, I didn't like the look or the price. I've used this at a friend's house, and since their birds detach a few of them have flown the coop.
With no bottom seam, the All-Clad has no sharp corner to collect mineral deposits. The interior is anodized similar to the Primus camping kettle I've been using. No mineral deposits at all is what I expect. The whistle is plenty loud. It really jets steam out so I am careful to point it away from my cabinets and not into the aisle. The handle needs a potholder if the I fill it to the line, but not if I'm boiling just a quart which is all I do. I have a potholder hanging nearby and my sleeve works also, and its not realistic to expect an all-metal handle to stay cool to the touch in all circumstances.
The locking lid is nice, but it has a silicon band around it and I wondered how long that will last and if it will still whistle if it goes. As an experiment I removed it and it sounds the same to me but some steam does escape through the lid. It probably keeps water from leaking out the lid if you tip the kettle too far. The spout has a baffle with nine 1/4" holes to prevent boil over and govern the pour rate too.
So, 5 stars because it is the quality I expected, the design performs as I expected, and my dog comes when it whistles. Its heirloom quality I think so my daughter will get it as long as I don't get hard of hearing and boil it dry someday.

Bistrot by Demeyere Belgium Resto Water Kettle 4.25-qt. Review

Bistrot by Demeyere Belgium Resto Water Kettle 4.25-qt.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the highest-quality kettle I have seen on the market. Thick solid surgical stainless steel, impressive encapsulated bottom for induction cooking (personally, I use it on a gas stove). Manufactured -- the HARD WAY -- out of a single piece of steel, no seams. The spout is welded to the body, then machined/polished smooth so it looks of a single piece with the rest of the kettle. Magnificent workmanship.
You get a 30-year warranty for home use (10 for commercial use). I don't know what such a warranty actually means... but for me it certainly means this will probably be the only piece of cookware that'll be fit to be passed on to the next generations as a treasured heirloom. It's that good.

Le Creuset Tea Kettle, 1.5 Qt. Halo
Average Reviews:

I like this kettle, but it does need some TLC. It can rust if water is left in it, and it shouldn't be stored on the stove while other cooking is going on since the enamel can rust. It is very good looking and the whistle is nice and loud.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Le Creuset Tea Kettle, 1.5 Qt. Halo

With its smooth lines and modern appeal, this stovetop teakettle quickly boils up to 1-1/2 quarts of water--perfect for making tea when visiting with a friend or curling up on the couch with a book. Measuring approximately 7 by 9 by 10 inches, the unit's generously sized, wide, flat base allows for greater contact with a heating element for fast results, and its fixed whistle on the pour spout communicates with a high-pitched tone when the water has reached its boiling point. A thumb press flips open the pour-spout lid for graceful serving.
As part of Le Creuset's Enamel-on-Steel collection, the superiorly crafted kettle features heavy-gauge steel construction for fast heating and even heat distribution, along with a hard, glossy enamel glaze for both durability and eye-catching beauty on the stovetop. The kettle's heat-resistant, "floating" handle ensures a secure grip, allows for easy lifting and pouring, and keeps hands a safe distance from the steam. To refill the kettle, simply remove its round-shaped lid by pulling up on the stay-cool lid knob. A wonderful housewarming, wedding, or Mother's Day gift, the kettle can be safely used on all heat sources, including induction, and should be hand washed only with hot soapy water and dried thoroughly.

BonJour Teakettle 2-Quart Stainless Steel with Copper Bottom, Vintage French Design Review

BonJour Teakettle 2-Quart Stainless Steel with Copper Bottom, Vintage French Design
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Purchased this kettle in December. Have purchased a couple of kettles in the last year--only to return them for lack of quality or imperfections. I ordered this one and it has been a great buy!! I've used it daily--several times a day. It is heavy enough (copper bottom is very nice--quick heat) but not too heavy (have arthritis).
Also, like that the handle is attatched on both sides so that as you pour it's well balanced. (Note the handle is fixed in place) Handle stays cool.
Just so you know--it does not whistle (not a problem for me) and may/will "spit" if you let the water get to a "HARD BOIL" and then immediately pour it--but just pay attention and if it is boiling hard, then let it rest a minute or two BEFORE you pour. Be vigilant and only fill to marked place (just below bottom of spout). It holds plenty of water---
To sum it up, imho, so far no cons. Sturdy, very pretty, well weighted, large opening so easy to clean, copper bottom heats quickly and evenly without any "ticking" noises on cheaper kettles(have a gas stove). Hope to have this kettle many years! This kettle was kind of expensive--I found it on sale--but after shopping so much, I would choose this one again! :)

Adagio Teas Glass Water Kettle Review

Adagio Teas Glass Water Kettle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was a good selection for me because I specifically did not want a whistling kettle, and I am tired of the decay and discoloration I've experienced with metal tea kettles. Other reviewers are right - it seems flimsy, especially the handle, so I set my electric stove setting on medium, not medium high, as I used to. It does seem to boil water more quickly, but that may just be my perception, since I could never actually see the water boiling in the metal tea kettles.
I'll use it as long as it lasts, but I am concerned about how easily it might break, especially the handle. Another negative - if you tip it all the way to empty the last drop of water, the cover falls off. If I were the manufacturer, I would offer an optional whistle, make the handle more substantial and design a more secure cover.
