The BODUM Assam cast iron tea press is both a functional and artful item for the tea table. The cast iron tea press combines the old Japanese tradition of enjoying tea in a tetsubin style teapot with BODUM's proven tea press system. The Assam shape is reminiscent of the traditional English tea pots, whereas the cast iron material and its texture create the relaxing feeling of participating in a Japanese tea ceremony, a purifying bath of the six senses.Cast iron was used not only to convey the Asian style, but because of its brilliant qualities to preserve heat and therefore the consistent quality of the tea within. To create the distinctive Assam bowl shape, two iron cast parts are fused together. The knob pattern (Arare) surrounding the exterior of the pot contains the same amount of knobs in the first and last row. The inside is lined with a smooth, durable vitreous coating of enamel to prevent the iron from deterioration. If properly cared for, the cast iron teapot will last more than a lifetime. The Assam cast iron tea press should be hand washed and never placed directly on the stove or open heat source.Brewing loose-leaf tea is easy with the Assam.Simple add your favorite black, green, herbal, or white tea to the infuser.Pour hot water over the tea, filling the pot.Allow the tea to brew to your liking and then press. The patented press system separates the tea leaves from the water, completely stopping the brewing process and eliminating bitter tea. This means that you can enjoy your tea over time while resting assured that your first cup and third cup will taste the same. The Assam 4 Cup Tea Press serves 8 4 oz cups.

I've had this tea pot for a few years, and have been very happy with it. Cleans up well, even after my husband spatters oil all over it every time he cooks (never remembers to remove it from the burners). It heats up quickly, whistles nice and loud, and doesn't weigh much. Go for it!

Le Creuset Classic Whistling Tea Kettle, 1.8 Qt. Enamel on Steel Review

Le Creuset Classic Whistling Tea Kettle, 1.8 Qt. Enamel on Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this teakettle for Christmas 2009. By April rust was evident around the lid opening, around the pouring end of the spout, and at the point the spout joined the body where there was a hairline gap in the enamel. I followed the instructions--never left water in the teakettle, never let it boil dry, didn't bump or jostle it. I contacted Le Creuset and they said to send it back at my expense and they would decide if it merited replacing. Three weeks later the replacement arrived. It is now July and every time I put the lid on the teakettle flakes of rust pop out from under the stainless steel ring around the opening. In the last few days the rust has emerged from under the ring, so I called Le Creuset again. After being put on hold twice and finally getting referred to a supervisor Le Creuset agreed to pay the shipping to return the teakettle. As compensation they will give me a credit that I can only use to buy Le Creuset products from Le Creuset at Le Creuset prices. If I want to get a stainless steel teakettle from them I have to pay an additional $35, although I could get a third enamel on steel teakettle that most likely will rust before Thanksgiving at no additional cost. What a bargain! This is a terrible product with terrible customer service.

Black Antique Coin Cast Iron Tetsubin Tea Pot Kettle Set (w/ Trivet) Review

Black Antique Coin Cast Iron Tetsubin Tea Pot Kettle Set (w/ Trivet)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked one of these from the Japanese House at Disney World's Epcot Center. I had a ceramic set for a couple of years already and wanted a second set for the office. So far, it hasn't disappointed. The set is solid, heavy, cast iron with a nice coating. No rust, so far and it should stay rust-free for as long as you don't scratch the coating. Needless to say, it hasn't passed unnoticed at the office and I already know someone who ordered one of these after sharing a cup of white tea.
I am using it for brewing white tea Revolution Tea White Chai Tea, Organic, 15-Count Pyramid Teabags (Pack of 6). My boss, who lives in Oxford, England and is a life-long tea drinker became an instant convert to both white tea and to using this pot. The little iron cups can get quite hot if you pour hot tea in them (watch out) but they look cool and you should not end up with burned lips if you are reasonably careful.

Black Antique Coin Design Cast Iron Tetsubin Tea Set-Designed by "Rikyu"-Holds up to approximately 20 Fl. Oz. of Tea!-Inner Surface of the teapot and teacup is coated with black enamel. With proper care, this set shall last over generations. This set includes an Iron Teapot (Kettle), Two Iron Teacups, One Stainless Steel Mesh Tea Strainer, w/Trivet; all inside a tan box making this set an excellent gift.Tetsubin or cast iron pots were first used throughout Japan as kettles to boil water over an open fire and were usually hung above a hearth to also provide heat and humidity in cold weather. In the mid 19th century, as infused teas such as Sencha became popular, brewing and serving the tea to friends and family in a tetsubin also became very popular.Benefits of Cast Iron Cookware:Cast iron ware is a boon for cooks since it heats evenly, retains heat well and lasts forever. It yields important health benefits, too! Iron-deficient diets are all too common these days and foods or liquids cooked in cast iron ware provide significant traces of this essential mineral.Long Term Care and Use (we recommend that you care for your tetsubin by following these guidelines): *Before first use, rinse your teapot several times with boiling water. But no soap!*Use the tetsubin to brew tea, not as a stove-top kettle.*Do not leave tea standing in the tetsubin for a long period of time. Dry both inside and outside of teapot completely 100% before storing or putting away otherwise it will rust.*Do not wash the tetsubin with abrasive pads or use harsh detergents or soaps. Simply rinse it with plain water and wipe it dry after each use. In Japan the natural mineral layer buildup inside a tetsubin is considered to be good for the health and helps to prevent rust from forming inside.*Do not expose your kettle or teapot to salt or oil.By following these guidelines your tetsubin will provide many years of enjoyment!

Whistling Tea Kettle - Giraffe Review

Whistling Tea Kettle - Giraffe

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because it rusts right where the spout attaches to the pot... the way the spout attaches creates a little spot where water gets trapped and there's not much you can do. But otherwise, it's great!! And the sound it makes when water boils is a refreshing change from the anoying whistling of other kettles.

GSI Outdoors Coffee Pots and Boilers Review

GSI Outdoors Coffee Pots and Boilers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This basic boiler coffee pot gets the job done. The lid on this boiler is attached, so you don't drop it in the fire and make the other cowboys mad. The GSI brand pots are a little thin and easy to dent, and the lids are not always a perfect fit. Old pots are much thicker. But for the price this one will do the job.
You can also use the other more sturdy brands percolator pots and take out the basket and tube.
Boiled coffe is a learned procedure and takes practice. If you cannot face having a bit of grounds in your coffee, or a dented pot with black soot marks on it, this may not be for you. This pot is not really for the stove. A boiled coffee pot like this one is meant for the campfire, or the fire-pit at home if you have one.
CARE OF POT: If you want it to stay nice and clean looking, wet the outside with a bit of soap before you put it on the fire, and let it dry to an invisible shield. Soot wipes right off when you wash it. Unless this stays outside all the time, this is a really smart idea to save the nice color on your pot. There is no basket, filter, tube, or other clutter to worry about, I want as little fussiness as possible for campfire coffee.
RECIPE FOR BOILED COFFEE: Here is a recipe from the book I am writing: Use 3/4 cup of coffee grounds per quart of coffee, or one coffee measure scoop per coffee cup of water. Heat the amount of water you intend to use in your pan over a hot fire, until boiling. Then add the coffee grounds, and an eggshell. Yes I said an eggshell. Get the water back to boiling as it slows for a couple of minutes after dropping in the coffee. Pull the pot off the fire and set it aside for a few minutes. Pour in a 1/2 cup of cold water. Along with the eggshells, this helps the grounds sink to the bottom of your pot. Some people do not like the cold water trick as they want the coffee as hot as possible. If that is you, just set it aside about 5 minutes to settle. Now the next secret to this is.... Don't pour it out! Instead use a scooper or a ladle to serve your coffee so that you do not stir up the grounds again. If you do not have a ladle, pour really really slow. That is why the lid on a boiler is supposed to be bigger than a lid on a percolator. TIP: Remember not to drink the cup to the bottom, throw out the last bit has grounds, then get a fresh cup. Now when I was a kid there were tricks that my uncles used when hunting involving socks as bag for grounds, but don't even ask me to go there. This type of pot is also convenient for leaving on the fire during the day to keep hot water going for washing dishes, bathing, cooking, or to make some hot chocolate or tea in the cup.
Now keep in mind that this page lists about 6 or more different size posts, some are percolators, so make sure you get what you really need. Boilers tend to come in bigger sizes that percolators, so if you need a BIG pot, you can get a boiler all the way up to 36 cups. Now that looks impressive on a fire. I hope all this helps you, Happy Trails!

This product is worth every penny.. I've had it for 3 months now and I love it.. The material is of great quality and the set is light yet heavy duty.. I wish the tea pot was a little bigger, but this is a minor problems, I got over it..

Turkish style double kettles are very hard to find both online and in stores. Break out of the old tea routine by owning a double kettle. Directions for using the double kettle to make Turkish black tea:To make the Turkish black tea like the Turks do you will need two kettles of different sizes: a big and a small one. The big kettle must be made of metal and the small one can be made of metal or ceramic.(in this case, ours is 18/10 stainless steel)First fill with water the big kettle and place it at the stove. Then put the small kettle above the big kettle. At the small kettle put black tea (the measure of black tea is a dessert spoon for each person). Light the stove. While the water is boiling in the big kettle the second small kettle will also be warmed. Please notice that the small kettle contains only black tea and it does not contain water. After the water boiled, you should put this water on the small kettle where there you have the black tea. (The measure of the water is relative to the number of persons who will drink the tea. For example, if just two people wants to drink tea you should add a little bit of water, if there are more people you must put more water). Now you must wait 15 minutes more or less, this is necessary so that the tea can cook. You will see that after 15 minutes the tea stays in the bottom of the kettle, this means that the tea can be served.Note: They can also be used as two separate tea kettles. Both come with their own lids when not stacking for all-in-one use. Like getting two tea kettles for one price. An excellent value! * Beautiful, unique design. An interesting conversation piece in your kitchen.

tea pot Review

tea pot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just used my new tea pot this morning and am satisfied with the purchase. Reasons: It seems to be well made; it has a nice design, and is practical for my use. I get up about 4 am and the tea pot with the beautiful color of the liquid looks great on the solid glass tea warmer glowing in the dark! (I purchased the Northwest Glass heavy glass warmer). The included glass infuser allows me to see the tea leaves and the slats (great concept instead of holes that allow tea leaves through - UPDATE BELOW) that allow brewing are located around the lower sides. That means that after brewing and using a full pot, I can add a small amount of additional water and have more tea. This is something important to consider when purchasing a tea pot....if the infuser does not sit low enough in the pot, you must use a lot of water before the tea can steep. This pot is good for about 20 ounces of tea. You can't fill it to the stated 24 ounce capacity or the liquid will spill from the spout (and I'm assuming by "3 cups" they mean 3 eight ounce cups). I purchased the tea warmer also which I reviewed under that item. There is just one thing that could have been better designed....when pouring the last drop you must keep your finger on the lid because it is not designed to stay on without holding it. But the pot is designed in a way where most of the liquid pours out easily, the beautifully curved spout does not drip, and you only have to hold the top for the last few drops.
UPDATE: Now that I have used this teapot daily, I have learned that gallons of water are probably being used to clean the glass infuser!!! The tea leaves get stuck in the glass slats. I have a sprayer on my sink and I end up getting water all over just trying to spray the inside and outside of the slats to loosen the tea leaves. If you don't like to spend a lot of time cleaning (and using a lot of water) then this will not work for you. The pot itself is really nice.

Ok....so I didn't order this teakettle for a long, LONG time because reviewers were saying that it didn't whistle. I thought it didn't make any noise at all. But, I loved its looks so I decided to order it anyway. The yellow color is a buttery yellow. The kettle is good and heavy and the enamel seems to be thick and evenly applied. But the sound....the sound is SO cool! It doesn't whistle like your Grandma's teakettle but it does make a sound. It starts out low and gets louder the longer it boils. It is a low and deep sound like a warning siren. You'll never have to worry about your kettle boiling dry. This kettle will alert you in plenty of time. I'm really enjoying the whole item from shape to color to sound.

I have owned this tea kettle for about 10 years. Not only is it fully functional as staple in my kitchen, it's adorable. Everyone who enjoys tea at my house comments on it. It is very durable, heavily constructed, and uniquely designed by Michael Graves. And of course, it "whistles". This is one tea kettle that you'll never have to replace; you won't be disappointed. It looks as good today as the day I opened the box. It's definitely a 5-star item.

A beautiful little bird adorns the spout of this kettle and whistles when contents boil. Designed in 1985 by Michael Graves, the eye-catching kitchen accessory is crafted with an 18/10 stainless-steel body, and a handle and bird whistle in durable PA resin that adds a splash of color. Choose from blue or ivory handles. The kettle's wider base lets the water boil more quickly, making it a favorite for busy, modern-day users. The kettle measures 8-1/2 inches in diameter and 9 inches high. It should be hand washed only. Fabulous on its own, the kettle also pairs beautifully with other Michael Graves pieces from Alessi and makes a great gift idea. Both whistling bird and lid can be replaced.

Primula Glass Stovetop Tea Pot with Infuser Review

Primula Glass Stovetop Tea Pot with Infuser
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
BE FOREWARNED: I bought this teapot for my wife as a little surprise gift little over three months ago as we're tea fans. I was impressed by the product descriptions of its 'laboratory-strength' thick glass; I had wanted to purchase a sturdy glass pot. And the fact that this was identified as dishwasher and microwave safe seemed additional testimony to its durability.
Please note: it's never been used in dishwasher OR microwave; it's been treated with great care simply because: that's how we are. And yet, just now: as the pot stood, filled on the counter: a roundish/tear-drop-shaped portion of the pot just popped OUT from the side. Untouched. It simply: broke. All by itself. A portion of the pot blew out, with attendant crack leading up to the top of the pot. And: she had made the tea about 1.5 hours previously; it wasn't even hot. But: of course, she and the counter were suddenly treated to a half-pot of tea.
VERY disappointed as well as extremely puzzled over how something like this could even happen. And it's clear there was no concussion from the outside: both the piece AND the pot show the glass blew OUTWARDS and that portion is fully intact.

This glass teapot with a capacity of 40 ounces turns the act of brewing tea into an artistic presentation. Loose tea leaves are placed into the glass infuser, hot water is added, and when the water reaches the desired color or strength, the infuser is lifted out along with all the loose leaves. A glass lid keeps the heat in, and the graceful loop handle makes the pot easy to pour. Tea flowers look beautiful in the pot, too, and work best without the infuser. Made of lightweight yet laboratory-strength borosilicate glass, the teapot won't stain and is safe for use in the microwave and dishwasher. For the tea drinker, Primula also sells a glass tea-making mug and packets of tea flowers, which are AA-grade green tea leaves and actual dried flowers that are hand-sewn into tight balls by artisans in China. After a tea flower ball is place in hot water, it will slowly sink to the bottom and unfurl into full "bloom." Some even have two different kinds of flowers that unfurl into a colorful spectacle, adding fragrance and flavor to the tea.

Bodum New Kenya 34-Ounce Tea Press, Black Review

Bodum New Kenya 34-Ounce Tea Press, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Bodum New Kenya tea presses in both the small and the medium sized models. I really enjoy good quality loose tea, and the tea presses make it very convenient to brew this way (although the tea presses do also accommodate bagged tea, according to the instructions). For the small press I add about one and one half tablespoons of loose tea to the strainer, and about three tablespoons for the medium sized press. The amount you add, as always, will depend on your own preferences.
I would have given the New Kenya presses 5 stars, but for one feature that I believe has the potential for eventual failure, due to extended use. The plunger portion of the tea press is surrounded by a soft plastic gasket, to seal it closely to the basket when pressing the tea leaves. Because this gasket is made of such a soft material, I can see that it has the potential to wear out over time, much in the same way that other gaskets can become worn.
It doesn't appear that this gasket comes off or separates from the plunger, so I imagine that if it does wear out, the entire lid and plunger assembly will have to be replaced. Potentially, that could be costly, but with the reduced price that Amazon currently offers these models, it might be a moot point. The New Kenya models are the first Bodum tea presses I have purchased, so I do not know if all of the Bodum models have this same type of plunger assembly.
Perhaps I am being overly cautious, but I depend on the reviews of others many times when making purchases, so I want to be as honest as possible. (You can decide whether or not my concern is important to you!)
The most significant points are that this press is simple to use, allows you to control the strength of your brewed tea, and is also very easy to clean. Oh, yeah, and did I mention that it makes one heck of a great cup of tea!? Cheers!
JANUARY 13, 2011 UPDATE: I am happy to report that both gaskets on both pots are still working perfectly. The only thing that is keeping me from changing this review to 5 stars is that I do miss the lid on these tea pots. It would be nice to have one to cap off the pot after brewing and removing the plunger assembly.

Hamilton Beach 40898 Cool-Touch Cordless 8 Cup Electric Kettle Review

Hamilton Beach 40898 Cool-Touch Cordless 8 Cup Electric Kettle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Most importantly, my wife loves it, and she is a gadget-phobe. I just bought a second one for my mother.
We have been using it for two months now, and no problems so far.
After my usual exhaustive search, I selected this tea kettle because it had the best combination of features.
PRO:
- All metal: stainless steel liner and no exposed heating element to accumulate scale buildup. The lid is plastic but it doesn't come into contact with the water. I really didn't like the idea of boiling water in contact with plastic.
- Cool touch exterior for safety and also it insulates the water inside, keeping it hotter after the kettle shuts off upon boiling.
- Nice balance for the handle - I find the electric kettles with the handle on the top to be much more difficult to lift and pour. This one has the handle on the side - much better.
- Wide mouth top is easy to fill and clean. The lid pivots in the middle - too hard to describe so I added a clip from the user manual. Easy to remove lid to clean, though as others mentioned it does get in the way a bit when you're filling the kettle.
- As with many other kettles, it is cordless -- the kettle lifts easily off and on from the corded base, and you can hide any extra power cord inside the base.
CON (none of these matter to me or my wife):
- No water level indication, but then if there were you would probably have connections that could leak over time and potentially plastic parts in contact with water.
- Water temperature is not adjustable.

With its concealed heating element, this electric kettle quickly brings up to 64 ounces of water to a rolling boil. Simply fill the kettle at the sink, return it to its 360-degree power base, and flip the switch to "on". In a matter of minutes, hot water will be ready to use for anything from tea, hot cocoa, or instant coffee to instant soup, baby formula, or noodles. After the water reaches a full boil, the kettle turns off automatically for peace of mind--no need to worry about it boiling dry. The unit also provides a comfortable easy-grip handle, a lid that locks for safety and opens with a thumb-activated button, a drip-free pouring spout, and a cordless design for graceful serving. Other highlights include an on/off indicator light, double-wall stainless-steel housing that stays cool to the touch, a beautiful brushed finish, and a mineral-deposit filter for pure, great-tasting water. Great for in a kitchen, office, or dorm room, the electric kettle measures 8-1/2 by 6 by 10 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
