Maytag MER7775WB 30 Freestanding Electric Range - Black Review

I ended up purchasing this item from Lowes because of the price break and a promotion on 0% APR for 12 months. Our stove bit the dust and we needed a new one ASAP. We couldn't believe that for the $589 that we paid for it, we could get a convection stove. Well, the convection is an excellent feature, especially for those who love baking breads and cookies. It also has a special way of keeping the temperature stable throughout the stove, so you don't have spots of different temperatures. This stove bakes evenly even on regular baking mode. It also has the feature of delayed heat, so you can set it to preheat and be ready to make dinner when you get home from work. I would definitely purchase this product again. It looks great with our all black appliances. The heating element is in the top, rather than the bottom, so cleaning is much easier, since things tend to drip down rather than up! You'd think everyone would put the heating element in the top.

Frigidaire Gallery Series Gas Range - Bisque Review

Frigidaire Gallery Series Gas Range - Bisque
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have the black color - I hate it because it streaks something awful and I already have 2 noticable scratches after only 6 months. However, I don't think that is the fault of this particular brand but just of the black finish in general. I wish I had stuck with the bisque color that the Lowes salesman laughed at.
Other than that, this oven is reliable and performs ok. I do use the Speed Bake button but I can't say I have noticably different results and have not adjusted any of my recipes. I do think frozen pizzas come out noticably better with Speed Bake. I think we paid about $750 for this oven 6 months ago. It's not bad and I would probably pay the extra $200 for the "convectin" Speed Bake feature because I think it adds resale value, but I know it's not a true convection oven - just a fan inside the oven.

JVM1790WK %2DProfile Spacemaker Series %2D Over%2Dthe%2DRange Microwave %2D White

(More customer reviews)
Bottom-Line: Overall I am very pleased with the GE Profile Model JVM1790WK Over-the-Range Convection/Microwave Oven.
None of us (except the uber-rich, who have enough money to ride the whole thing out) are immune to the economic downturn it seems. My wife and I had decided to put our house on the market this spring, but decided not to when the numbers just didn't add up in our favor. So we decided to remodel our small, but comfortable home instead.
In the kitchen and dining room we replaced the flooring. And we decided to replace our 10-year-old countertop microwave oven with an over-the-range convection/microwave oven, that could also act as a warming oven; we eventually choose the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" over-the-range convection/microwave oven, which we purchased for ($519.00) at our local Grants Appliances & TV.
The Unit
The 65lbs. "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" over-the-range convection/microwave oven is an all-white 1.7 Cu. Ft. capacity, 1000 watt unit that offers the following feature-set:

oConvection cooking - produces flavorful, beautifully browned results
oFast bake - delivers oven-quality results up to 25% faster than conventional cooking
oSensor microwave oven - uses built-in sensors to automatically set power and time based on food moisture levels
oWarming oven - keeps prepared foods exceptionally warm and fresh
oAuto Recipe conversion - automatically converts standard recipe temperatures to proper convection settings, eliminating the guesswork
oBi-lingual scrolling display - provides helpful cooking tips and oven use instructions in easy to read English or Spanish
oThree speed, 300 CFM venting - allows adjustment of ventilation levels according to your needs
oEasy set control dial - allows quick and easy adjustment of time and temperature settings
oStainless steel interior - reflects heat and surface cleans quickly and easily
The unit is of course designed to fit is standard 30" over-the-range opening and fit into our opening rather nicely once the hood was removed. The all-white unit is attractive, and relatively easy to use and operate.
The "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK Microwave Oven" ships with a standard rotating glass plate, along with two stainless steel racks for convection roasting and baking, instruction manual, and cookbook.
During over-the-range installation one can choose to vent the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" outside or inside the kitchen via charcoal vent situated at the top of the unit. Air is drawn into the microwave via vents at the bottom. A two-way light is also situated at the bottom of the unit, but unfortunately it does not provide as much light as the hood it replaced. This is probably due to the face that the light is much closer to the cook top and it is off to the right front of the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK." Push the "Surface Light" button once and the lamp comes on full power, push is again and the light enters night light mode.
The "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" comes with a powerful 3-speed Vent (fan). Push the "Vent" once and the fan comes on High, push it again, medium, once again, low. Both the high and medium vent fan setting is quite noisy, but not annoyingly so.
Use
Microwave operation is pretty straight forward and needless to say the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" with is 1.7 cubic feet of cooking space and 1000 watts of cooking power excels at this task. The ubiquitous Popcorn button (a must in my house) is the first button on the top row left. Push it and the unit automatically adjusts its time to turn out the best bag of popcorn.
Timed cooking is accomplished by the push of a button and a rotary dial to input the cook time. Push the "Reheat Plate" button and the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" utilizing the units auto-sense technology automatically adjusts the time and power to reheat the food evenly. The feature works and works well.
Convection cooking is not so straight forward but it is one of the reasons we purchased the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK". There are a number of options available for convection cooking and one is well-advised to read through the manual to find the selection that best suits your needs.
I baked my first dish in the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" soon after it was installed: homemade cornbread. I pushed the "Convection Bake" button--there is also a Convection Roast--and then dialed in the temperature I needed, in this case 400 degrees. Unlike some reviews I read the oven took less than 30 minutes to warm up; in fact it took a little over 15 minutes, which is on par with my conventional gas oven.
After to required 23 minutes the cornbread was done, well sort of done. The outside was sufficiently golden brown, but the inside middle was not quite done. Something tells me that this convection cooking stuff is going to take some getting used to!
Closing Thoughts
Overall I am very pleased with the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK Over-the-Range Convection/Microwave Oven." Despite the fact that my first attempt at convection baking did not turn out quite as expected, I will over time learn the ins and outs of convection cooking. The microwave portion of the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" works as expected and the unit look fabulous with our kitchen full of other GE appliances.

Maytag : Over-The-Range Microwave Oven Review

Maytag : Over-The-Range Microwave Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this microwave just over a month ago from one of the larger home improvement stores. My condo is smallish, so I decided to go with this less expensive model. It worked fine the first few times I used it, but after running it for more than 4 minutes at a time, it would shut off completely. The display would not even light up. The power would eventually return after about a half hour or so.
As it is still covered under the manufacturer's warranty, I was able to arrange for free service through Maytag's website. The technician just left and told me that the problem was "poor design." Apparently, there isn't enough cooling for some of the internal parts when the microwave is being run for more than a few minutes. To remedy the situation, he suggested that whenever I had the oven on for an "extended" amount of time, I should turn the vent fan on high so that the internal parts can remain cool. The technician said that this was a problem with many brands of over the range microwaves in this price range including LG, Kenmore, etc. He did say that GE was likely the best brand to buy.
As I spent a significant amount of money and effort between the initial purchase and having it installed, I will keep the oven and just remember to run it with the vent fan on. It works fine otherwise.
Update: 1 Year Later
After the initial service call, the original problem of the microwave overheating and shutting off after about 4 minutes of use continued regardless of whether or not the fan was turned on.
Just before the 1 year warranty expired, I decided to try and have it serviced one more time. The service person determined that the problem was improper installation. I helped him pull down the microwave and then he was able to move the fan housing cover into the proper position for external venting, the instructions of which were actually printed on a sticker right next to the housing cover. Go figure!
I'm upgrading my rating on this because the microwave oven has been working perfectly since then. I can recommend it without reservation, but just make sure it's installed correctly.

Our microwave was delivered and installed on 6/28, it worked for twenty minutes. On 7/3 the repairman came to fix it, he ordered parts. On 7/18 he returned with parts, however, the microwave is still in parts on the kitchen floor, numerous calls to everyone concerned with it (Whirlpool, Lowes, the installers, and an 'authorized' repair facility) and have garnered only apologies. I believe this was an item that needed more research before purchase. So as the title says, beautiful to look at because that's all we can do, and actually since it's in parts on the kitchen floor, it isn't even that.
(ASIDE) The Whirlpool folks were particularly apologetic, it seemed as though they were trained to say, "I'm sorry and there's nothing we can do.", as they managed this in a pleasant, polite, and smarmy manner.

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KEMS378SSS 27in Microwave Combination Wall Oven Review

KitchenAid Architect Series II : KEMS378SSS 27in Microwave Combination Wall Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased this in March of 2009. It came with the following:Turntable, Convection grid, Crisper pan & handle, baking tray and steamer vessel.
There are so many features in here that I don't think I've used everything.
First, the Convection Microwave Oven:
De-Frost - I'm not a big menu planner so defrosting before I cook has to work quickly and efficiently for me. Apart from the usual cooking power options (High 100%, 90%, 80% etc) I can choose from Meats, Poultry, Fish, Bread, Juice & Manual. The microwave calculates the defrosting time based on the weight that I input. The manual has guidelines and pound to kilogram conversions.
Re-Heat - The options include Dinner Plate, Sauce, Soup, Pizza, Casserole, Beverage and Manual. The microwave bases the reheating on how many cups of sauce/soup/casserole/beverage is inputed and the number of slices of pizza. For example, I want to heat a cup of coffee. (Ghastly to some, I know, but I've done it) The microwave will ask you how many cups and whether you want it warm or hot. Simple & easy.
Manual Cooking - Just input the cooking power and the cooking time and you're all set!
Popcorn - Works like in other microwave ovens. Pop it based on the bag size.
Steam Cooking - The vessel comes in 3 parts: the cover, the food holder and the water container and they all fit together. I've steamed fresh vegetables, frozen vegetables and a lot of dim sum. They've all been delicious. The options are Potatoes, Fresh Vegetables, Frozen Vegetables, Fish fillets, Shrimp & Manual. Again, the microwave calculates the cooking times on how many cups and how many ounces. The steaming vessel is dishwasher safe.
Soften/Melt - The options are Butter, Margarine, Ice Cream, Cream cheese and the softening/melting time is based on how many sticks and ounces you have. We love to bake and we have a fondness for ice cream cakes so this has been so useful.
Crisper Pan Frying - This is the one feature that I've only tried a couple of times. I still like to use the old frying pan, I'll admit. I followed the guide in the manual and made an omelet.
Timer - I use this mostly when I'm making pasta on the stove top. I can have this running while the oven is cooking something else.
The Microwave converts to a Convection oven/Easy Convect. I just put the grid on the turntable. I've done smaller amounts of cookies, some chicken, baked potatoes and french fries this way.
The bottom part of this oven is the Electric Convection Oven. In "traditional" oven mode I can choose from Bake, Broil & Bread Proof. In convection mode, there's Bake, Broil & Roast. Just to give me something else to think about there's also an EasyConvect option. There's also the Options key that does the fahreinheit & celsius conversion, turns the sound on/off/high/low, dehydrates, oven temperature calibration, Sabbath mode and turn the turntable on/off.
To clean, I turn on the Self Clean Mode, choose the number of hours I want and wipe down when it's cool. The manual advises against using commercial oven cleaners.
Again, so many features. The bottom line is I've been very happy with this oven. It replaced an ancient GE that came with our house. A lot of thought went into this purchase since we also had to hire someone to chip away at a brick wall that also housed a fireplace that we wanted to keep. I chose this oven because of the brand, the stainless steel, its size & features and because I wanted the microwave oven off my counter. Notice that I mention the manual quite a bit. It has a lot of information!
Highly recommended.

Nuwave 20322 Pro Digital-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, Black Review

Nuwave 20322 Pro Digital-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my second Nuwave. I use it constantly. It is especially good for preparing meals for one to two people. It does everything a conventional oven will do, only better, faster, and with substantially less electricity. Items I would once use a microwave to prepare because of the time savings, I now regularly prepare in the Nuwave Oven.
However, it is too air tight. NO moisture escapes. That has its advantages and disadvantages. Items are moist and delicious, but if you like the crispiness a standard oven creates, expect less crispiness with the Nuwave. That, though, is a minor, almost insignificant tradeoff, compared with the valuable features. (One comment to the manufacuturer: What numbskull decided to put the allegedly "peel-off" sticker on the see-through ring? It does not peel off easily at all. There are a dozen glues you could have used that would cause it to peel off entirely, instantly. Instead, you went with some cheap, nearly permanent sticker that takes forever to get off. I have ALWAYS said engineers and manufacturers should be "sentenced" to use the appliances they create and produce for at least ten years.)

I love the oven part of this range. The true convection works well.
The stove top is organized well, but the "Power Plus" burner is a huge flaw. This burner, while well suited for very high heat tasks such as boiling water, has no real range. It goes from 'all on' to 'nearly off' by turning from "6" to "5". Further, the burner on its low setting works more like a candle or sterno, concentrating the heat in one area at the middle of the pan instead of distributing it.
I even went so far as to send pictures to Frigidaire to see if it was broken, but they confirmed that it is working correctly.
All in all, I feel like I'm short the use of one burner for most cooking tasks, which is extremely disappointing. Without this fatal flaw, I would have recommended this range to anybody.

Bertazzoni Master Series : A365GGVXENG 36 Pro-Style Gas Range, 5 Sealed Burners, Convection - NG Review

Bertazzoni Master Series : A365GGVXENG 36 Pro-Style Gas Range, 5 Sealed Burners, Convection - NG
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After much research I bought this range 2 years ago, and overall I'm very pleased with it. Here's how I rate my Bertazzoni from good to bad:
First the best part: It's strikingly beautiful, and the cooktop is amazingly versatile in its heat range. This is also my first time using convection, and I LOVE it, I had no idea roast chicken could be so good! The price point is also fantastic.
Now the pretty good:I also really like the electric ignition feature. It took
a bit to get used to, it can be tricky to get the oven properly lit. You have to keep the door ajar untill its fully lit (takes around 60 seconds)and if you close the door too soon the flame goes out. So a little fussy, but no big deal.
Now the kinda bad: The oven is HUGE, probably overkill for my family of four.
I feel like a huge energy waster getting it all fired up to bake a simple casserole. Also you MUST use two oven thermometers if you are doing something delicate like a souffle. (Which I have done, and it turned out beautifully.) One side gets hotter than the other and the oven temp NEVER matches what the setting on the dial says. Using the convection feature and two thermometers corrects for this problem completly. I get extremly even and uniform browning while baking 4 trays of cookies at once and my pizza is perfectly crispy. In retrospect I might have gone with the 30" model, but I REALLY wanted 5 burners. Anyways...
The worst part: It has a truly uncool (uncool, get it? Sorry, bad pun) cooling feature that vents hot air into your kitchen. The first page of the manual explains that you will need to double the exhaust in your kitchen to compensate. Which I am in no position to do at this point. It's fine in the winter, actually cuts back on our furnace usage, but in the summer it makes my house an inferno. So, light summertime baking is no longer an option. Not that I love baking in the summertime anyway, so I am learning to deal with it. I do wish I had known this ahead of time, I can imagine it would be a deal breaker if you lived in New Mexico (I live in Portland, Oregon by the way.)
I do love my Bertazzoni, and I would recommend it to someone who loves to putz around the kitchen, and has time and patience to deal with the quirks. If you are busy and highly value precision in an oven, this might not be for you.

I haven't had a chance to use the stove yet, as the kitchen is still being renovated. This is a nice-looking stove. I like the center griddle area; it's convenient for placing hot pots. The warming drawer is also a very nice feature that I expect to use.
Unfortunately, the high-powered (right front) burner does not light evenly. The flame on the outer perimeter does not go as high as that on the inner perimeter. I called GE twice for repair. The first technician said it was supposed to be that way to prevent the high flame from burning something on the adjacent counter top (a very creative, if far-fetched, explanation). The second technician claimed to have corrected the problem, but this isn't the case. If I had known about this, I probably would have purchased a different stove. However, everything else seems to be working properly, so I guess I can live with this glitch. As for cleaning. I wish it came with removable drip pans. I called far and wide looking for one that did before choosing a stove. It seems that this is a thing of the past and is only available on more basic models of gas stoves, esp those w/o sealed burners, and electric stoves. I inquired about purchasing drip pans elsewhere, but none would fit this stove.
So, I guess I'll deal with frequent messes. The grates are double length and fortunately fit in my 30" sink. If GE is able to correct these two problems, I would have no qualms about recommending this stove.

The Sharper Image 8127SI Super Wave 1300-Watt 12-1/2-Quart Countertop Oven Review

We've never had a convection oven in our kitchen, and I looked forward to trying this hybrid convection/hybrid/infrared cooking unit. Overall, the negative aspects of this device outweigh its positives.
Some things to consider:
First: sheer size. I did the math, and at 15" tall (12" if you remove the metal extender ring) and 12" in diameter, you'll need to find a cool cubic foot of storage space when it's not in use. If your kitchen is like mine, and you already have a rice cooker, a slow cooker, a food processor and a countertop mixer competing for cabinet and counter space: good luck. I realize that the volume allows it to accommodate substantially sized contents. Just be aware that you'll have to find a place to keep it.
Second: weight. Approximately 17 pounds (advertised shipping weight is 18 pounds). Wherever you decide to store it, you'll be hefting it.
Third: lots of opportunities to burn yourself. See all that glass in the product picture? It all gets hot (as does the 3" metal extender ring). While it may be intuitive that these get hot, you'll be working in close proximity to them while turning items over or removing them from the cooking container.
Fourth: Clean-up. The main cooking bowl will take up most of a kitchen sink during clean-up. The heating and fan element, along with the power cord and power supply, are integrated into the glass lid. Obviously this is a "do not immerse in water" item. Cleaning up after the spatters resulting from cooking takes some thought.
One of the attractive features of this is the opportunity to cook meats from frozen. Great idea, and seems like a time saver. Here's a reality check for one such scenario: cooking a 6.7 lb frozen chicken.
-the giblet bag. It's frozen inside the body cavity. I tried both running water and a brief stint in the microwave to get is sufficiently thawed for removal...no success. Neither was it extractable at the halfway cooking point (when you turn the chicken over). So I left it in the chicken.
-the cooking instructions for a whole frozen chicken call for it to be turned halfway through cooking. The included tongs for lifting the cooking rack out of the container simply can't accommodate the size of a chicken this large. So turning becomes an adventure with opportunities to both burn yourself...and send your half-baked chicken sliding across the counter..and maybe onto the floor.
Also of note in the included cooking instructions was a surprising difference in cooking temperatures for "whole chicken, 4 lb" and "whole turkey, 6 lb". The instructions indicated the chicken should be cooked at 460 degrees (F),the turkey at 350 (F). As they are both poultry, I was surprised by this, and had no confidence that either was correct.
Bottom line:consider carefully the wisdom of the "whole frozen chicken" recipe selection!
A brief discussion about cooking times and energy savings:
The description of this item indicates "up to 3 times faster" than a conventional oven. Pay attention to the "up to 3 times", and plan on about 2 times faster as a rule of thumb. This is a 1300 watt (110 v) appliance, so it'll use about the same energy of a high powered microwave or hair dryer. I'll assume this is still less than a 220 volt conventional oven (but leave that bottom line to the electricians), bit it will still use significant electricity when operating.
So, if you have a place to store it, and if your kitchen and cooking are such that you often need to prepare multiple entrees in the oven, and IF you select the correct recipes (stuffed peppers, baked potatoes, air-fried french fries or cuts of meat that can be easily turned), this might be a good choice for you. If not, this may be one of those appliances that finds a distant storage place...and then remains there until your next garage sale or moving day.

Broil King POV-35 Professional Half Sized Stainless Convection Oven/Broiler Review

Broil King POV-35 Professional Half Sized Stainless Convection Oven/Broiler
Average Reviews:

Very pleased with this unit after 6 weeks of use. It does three racks of cookies perfectly, unlike my conventional oven that does best one sheet at a time on the center rack. A pan of chicken parts took 30 min. @ 325. It has plenty of room for Pizza stones and Pampered Chef stone ware sheets. Also, if you are disgusted with the "China Syndrom" that permeates most retail products, this is manufactured in Italy. The price was better in January, glad that I made a decision to buy it then.
MORE : after a year, this is a BEST purchase, bakes bread great, would buy it again!!

Electrolux : EW30DS65GS 30 Slide-in Dual Fuel Range, 4 Sealed Burners, Convection - Stainless Stee Review

Electrolux : EW30DS65GS 30 Slide-in Dual Fuel Range, 4 Sealed Burners, Convection - Stainless Stee

We purchased this range just over a year ago as a part of a major remodel of our home. We originally wanted the GE Cafe' series but were talked into this new Electrolux unit by our local appliance center as being "more reliable". This range has been a nightmare from the day it was installed. We have endured multiple repair calls for various major and minor issues:
1) The first time we used the lower oven (Thanksgiving Day 2008, the day after installation) the door locked shut and could not be opened - with rolls in the oven. We shut off the heat but could still not open the door for 10-15 more minutes until the rolls were ruined. The dealer attempted to repair this issue a few times, with instruction and new parts from Electrolux techs. One repair was a six hour marathon requiring insulation to be removed and elements replaced. The oven worked a few times without locking and then the problem recurred. Two more sets of parts including replacing the lower oven door with an identically designed unit still didn't fix the problem. Electrolux techs clearly were grasping for solutions and had no clue as to how to effect the repair.
2)The main oven would take 20-22 minutes to pre-heat, even on the "rapid pre-heat setting". Were told by techs that it is the way the range is designed because of the "hidden element." The replacement range pre-heats a little more quickly.
3)Two of the four gas burners would not ignite regularly. The igniters would click but not ignite. This was an intermittent problem. The tech said that we weren't hitting "just the right spot" on the dial when turning it on. Even if correct (which I dispute - we had no problem with the other two burners) what kind of poor design requires that kind of operational precision?
4) After one month the center metal grid snapped in half while cleaning (using light pressure - honest folks!) Vendor replaced the item without question.
5) After about 10 months the electronic control panel would intermittently not work when trying to operate the main oven. The temperature could be set, but after pressing the start touchpad the temperature would reset and not turn on the oven.
I called Electrolux/Frigidaire directly and due to the long record of repairs and reported problems, and since the problems could not be fixed, they replaced the entire unit without argument. The new unit arrived in about a week and was installed by the original vendor. After one use (10 minutes of boiling eggs) all of the ignitors went out. We have been lighting the range burners with matches for a week while waiting for the repair parts.
Pros:
1) Cool, very high tech electronic touch pad control panel.
2) Attractive appearance - clever, graduated power up oven lights.
3) Very smooth gliding racks in the main oven.
4) Good self-cleaning performance.
5) Small lower oven has limited use due to size but is very convenient to have for small items and warming.
6) Efficient heating by all four gas burners. Good variation of sizes and BTU outputs.
Cons:
1) Unreliable - Doesn't work well (a pretty big con.)
2) The main oven is relatively small in capacity and shallow front to back - a large pizza won't fit unless the edge is folded up against the front door or rear of the oven. We had to remove all racks but one and set it on the lowest guiderail to accomodate a moderate sized turkey.
3) The lower over is very small (height-wise)...can't put a casserole with a lid on it in the oven.
4) Stainless surfaces scratch very easily, even with careful cleaning. A single grain of salt scratched the SS surface of the cooktop the first time we cleaned it. We have since learned to carefully daub all "specks" off of the cook top before wiping it clean.
5) The oven racks are difficult to remove and replace to adjust baking levels. All racks but the center rack must be removed if using the convection setting to allow for "proper circulation of heated air" (per owner's manual.)
6) The oven fan runs for over two hours after the unit is turned off - a cool down feature I suppose. (This may be a "pro" for some people but is annoying.)
7) The exhaust from the oven vents out the FRONT of the unit instead of the rear or rear/top which would take advantage of the overhead exhaust fan. Uncomfortable when cooking and baking at the same time and really fills the kitchen with acrid smelling fumes during the self cleaning cycle.
8) Slooooow to pre-heat.
We may just have been unlucky and received two "lemons", but with so many good alternatives on the market in this price range I would recommend looking to another manufacturer for a dual fuel slide in unit. If another breakdown occurs within the next few months we will get rid of this range at a loss and buy from another company. However,if we experience no problems I will return and edit this rating up to "three stars".

Sunpentown SO-2002 Digital Convection Oven with Nano-Carbon and FIR Heating Element Review

In our current economy why heat up the big Oven and the kitchen
when this small but efficient oven can do everything the big stove
can , only faster. I have learned to buy the small pizza's to fit , cooked frozen pork roast to perfection , bake potatoes and even made golden brown pies. I love it !
I use my Big Convection Kitchen Stove to store pots and pans and
who needs to spend money on electric bills to turn the self clean on when
the base of my 1.2 Liter turbo oven can go directly into the dishwasher or just wipes clean with a damp rag.
I "AIR FRY" potato steak fries crisp with a little cooking spray
in this wonderful machine. The only drawback would be that the manufacture failed to include a cooking chart . I had one left over from my Jet-stream oven or Flavor-wave oven that was mostly made of plastic parts. Both ovens worked well but I was always sending for costly replacement pieces. This OVEN being made of glass as heavy as a large mixing bowl should last for years.

What a great looking unit -- too bad the sleek stainless steel outside hides a lousy inside!
My wife and I have been looking a more updated unit to replace our 15 year old electric range oven. We thought we found a unit that was both functional, sleek and useful. For the two months that the unit worked, it was actually a great range oven. We found ourselves using the upper oven (although smaller of the two) more than 95% of the time. It heated up quickly and baked evenly. The stove top is also designed thoughtfully and the control unit, while not as advanced as some other units, was very functional and surprisingly intuitive to use.
The unit broke down after just two months of use (bought on Sep 10, 2010 and broke on Nov 4, 2010). The unit shut down completely and when it re-powered, the "door locked" indicator was on. While the stove top was still functional, neither of the ovens were. The GE technician looked at the unit for about three minutes, ordered a bunch of parts and left. The follow up appointment was rescheduled by dispatch, without notification. GE Customer Service was useless (but at least they all spoke English). Now we're stuck without an oven for Thanksgiving holidays with family coming to town. Will call the store we bought the unit from and see if we can return it. Searching around there are more reports of control board circuit boards being "fried" by the oven, so this is not an isolated incident. Do not buy this unit until the problem is resolved.

Sanyo EM-C6786V 1-Cubic-Foot Microwave Oven with Convection and Grill Review

Sanyo EM-C6786V 1-Cubic-Foot Microwave Oven with Convection and Grill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have owned our Sanyo Microwave Oven with convection and grill for almost two months, and have attempted to test all functions in order to write a complete review. We rely heavily on reviews to help us decide what to buy, so we did our best to evaluate this oven. At almost $180.00 it is not a trivial purchase.
The design is sleek, and the controls easy to use -- but as other reviewers cautioned, keep the booklet handy!
The microwave functions -- cook, auto menu cooking (limited to microwave), auto reheat all work as well as our last microwave -- a G/E over the range.
However, the conbined functions -- micro plus grill, convection plus grill, leave much to be desired.
The roast chicken function -- a combination of micro and grilling is neat and works well -- but does not save time, although it probably saves energy and kitchen heat compared to cooking chicken in a standard oven. When the chicken was taste-tested our family concluded that it was pretty good chicken and assumed that the time to cook was materially reduced -- which it was not. It was agreed that in a "time-bind" they would eat this chicken, but preferred standard oven baked. Given that the chicken took about ten minutes longer than it would have in the oven, the saving was a hot kitchen in the summer, and probably many BTUs.
Combo 1(Micro and Convection) works well -- but it is not fast! Nor are there timing guides. (More on this later)
We have not used Combo 2 (Microwave and Grill) for anything but hot dogs. Too slow by half! Steak is a treat for us, so we cook it with much ceremony outside -- but my experience with grilling hot dogs fo lunch caused me to turn on the broiler in our "real"stove to finish them.
Combo 4 (grill and convection) is rather a joke. Today, in anticipation of putting our review on paper, I took two defrosted quarter pound hamburgs and put them on the grill rack. Dialed in 20 minutes on Combo 4 and walked away. At 20 minutes, the hamburgs registered about 100 degrees F. internal -- as in not cooked. I added another 5 minutes and temped them and got to 120 degrees. Another 6 minutes got them to an edible internal temperature of 140. Thirty minutes to "grill?" two hamburgers?
The convection function alone works well for small quantities of food. But, it is important to note that this is not a convection oven -- in other words an oven that cooks more rapidly than a "standard" oven.
So, what is this neat little oven good for? As a micro it's great. In the same space as a micro you can heat dinner rolls on convection when your main oven is tied up, or bake appetizers while the roast is roasting in the main oven.
What's missing? A recipe book would have helped. The first time I cooked hamburgs using Combo 4 I figured they would cook faster than the time to heat my T-Fal Compact Multi-Grill (rather a waste for two burgers!) and I was dead wrong! (The reason for today's test.) If there had been a booklet or time sheet that indicated 30 minutes to cook two thawed burgers -- well T-Fal would have had the whole job rather than finishing it up!
For people who live in dorm rooms (I was once one of those!) who want all the functions of an oven and a micro in one box -- I would have been glad to have this Sanyo. But -- a recipe book that might indicate time to cook various things -- would really help.
Are we glad we bought this oven? Well, yes. But, and this is important, it is not a Micro/Convection Oven -- nor does it claim to be one.
This oven is a great microwave -- we are very happy with the micro functions. It is also a nice "auxilliary" oven for entertaining -- as long as you can work out the times. It probably saves energy over heating up our main gas oven for small things and will likely keep heat out of our kitchen in the summer.

More than just a 1000-watt microwave oven, this versatile appliance also functions as a 1000-watt grill and a 1400-watt convection oven. With convection cooking, hot air circulates throughout the oven cavity to brown and crisp foods quickly and evenly--great for baking cakes, cookies, and muffins, or even for browning meats. The 10 convection temperature settings range from 285 to 400 degrees F. A grill rack comes included for during the grill function, which cooks and heats items such as fish, nachos, hot dogs, and sausages. When microwave cooking, choose from five power levels: 10 percent, 30 percent, 50 percent, 80 percent, or 100 percent. The unit also provides four combination settings: combination one (microwave and convection) for frozen entrees and casseroles, combination two (microwave and grill) for steaks, combination three (grill and microwave) for chicken, and combination four (grill and convection) for hamburgers.
For added convenience, nine direct-access push-button menu keys make it easy to cook popular items. Menu keys include popcorn, beverage, pizza, potato, frozen vegetable, meat, fish, and roast chicken, as well as auto reheat. Open the door to access the hidden keypad and to use the digital encoder for setting the time, power, and weight input. Other highlights include a 1-cubic-foot stainless-steel interior, a large 12-3/8-inch rotating glass turntable, multi-stage cooking options, a 95-minute cooking timer, defrost by weight or time, a child lock-out function, and an interior light. To clean, simply wipe the inside and outside with a soft cloth and mild detergent solution, then rinse and wipe dry. The stylish and contemporary-looking microwave/convection/grill oven measures 18-4/5 by 20-1/2 by 13-1/4 inches and carries a one-year parts-and-labor warranty.
