(More customer reviews)This ceramic hot-plate looks the part, and I cannot denny that it works very well, but it provides no more heat than a standard coiled hot-plate, and in fact when turned to the larger 1500W heating setting (larger diameter), the outer rings do not heat up to the same degree as the inner rings. This creates center heat zones in any pots or pans over 8" in diameter, and is very noticeable in pots 10" and larger... The unit also cycles on and off, to stabilize temperature, but sometimes when you are shooting for high heat levels it can be very frustrating...! After a year of use, the markings (indicating temperature settings) around the dial have started to wear off, and the ceramic top element is very hard to clean, even with the specialized ceramic cooktop cleaners on the market. Good amounts of elbow grease are required to keep this puppy clean! Overall, this unit looks the part when cleaned--impressive. However it's German made guts really are no better than a $17.95 basic hot-plate in terms of performance. If you need something modern looking and impressive--and are willing to scrub and work to keep it clean--this unit will work well. For most it's just too expensive for its level of lackluster performance, and you should look at more reasonably priced units.

Also, if you have a lot of non-ferrous, glass, etc. cookware, read this before buying an induction cooktop!
1. You won't be able to use non-ferrous (non-magnetic) pots and pans. Check your cookware with a magnet before purchasing an induction plate. If they're not magnetic at all, they probably won't work. We use enamel-coated cast iron pots, and they work really well.
2. Cooks much more efficiently than gas or electric (heats up faster, and doesn't shed excess heat in the area not in contact with the pot).
3. Your cooking area doesn't get hot, only the pot and the food do. If you have to cook in the summer, you'll appreciate not having to crank up the A/C.
It has some really great safely features, too: if the pot isn't compatible, or if you remove it, the cooktop starts to beep. If you don't put the pot back (or transfer it to one that works on induction stoves), it turns itself off. It has a sealed top and sealed controls so spills or splatters can't get into the element or the console.
I thought about getting one of these for about 7 months before making the purchase, and now I'm really glad that I did.

"product features: your food heats faster and more evenly than by any other method - even twice as fast as gas cooktops!"
That is basically a false statement for a "1,800W induction".
A standard 20 year old gas range will boil 2 quarts of water faster than this induction hob will.
about 8 mins for the induction and about 7 mins for the gas.
If you are looking for fast induction cooking then you need to get a regular induction cook top with 3000W elements with power boost (basically draws the power from the other elements to add another 1000W).
Keep in mind that you will also need about 240v outlets with 10gauge wiring and 30-40amp fuses in your Kitchen to run an induction cooktop.
Not this one, but a regular induction cooktop.
If all you need is a portable cooktop that you can hook up outside next to your BBQ or anywhere else then this is great but its not like a regular induction cook top as far as speed of cooking.
You can also get this hob from Tuesday morning for $150

(More customer reviews)I have owned two (2) of these 24-cup coffee urn products, over the past 3+ years. The first one began leaking at about the end of the first year, so we liked the product enough to locate and purchase our second unit. The second urn worked well for about ten (10) months, but, this past week the device that controls the flow of liquid from the urn broke. Although we can still make our coffee, we must now LADDLE IT OUT OF THE URN. Not the best way to start one's day, I'm very sure.
I've had the device completely disassembled and attempted to repair the faulty item (it is a clear plastic unit, rather barrel-shaped, with a slot that allows the fliud to be discharged when the barrel is turned to the opening. The shaft that connects to the lever on the outside of the urn has snapped off and will not accept any of the glueing products that I've tried, attempting to repair it (even tried to re-enforce the device, inside, to no avail).
Since this is my second urn, and the problem is NOT A REPEAT OF THE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST URN, I feel the consumer should be aware that the life expectancy of these products seems to be far less than the average consumer might expect, for an in-home electronic appliance, and incredibly short for any possible commercial use.
When working, the product was more than satisfactory, but, the unexpectedly short projected life of the product should be noted on the product, and/or these faults should be reflected in the pricing of the unit(s). If I could have found a parts supplier, I might not be so negative about the product either, but, having to purchase a new unit EVERY YEAR seems totally unfair to the consumer likely to purchase this product.

I LOVE it. I hardly ever use my (electric) range. Anticipating that I'd be moving off the natural gas grid I bought this 2.5 yrs ago to see what life with Induction would be like. It's fabulous. Fast, responsive, accurate. I'm looking forward to remodeling my kitchen next year and adding a 30 inch all induction cooktop. I like a 36" cooktop, but with a portable like this one tucked away I can haul it out when I need the extra burner, and will be able to use my space more efficiently.
If you're curious about Induction, try one of the portables first. At worst, you've got a great extra station for a hot appetizer when you throw your next party.
Check out the Henkels Induction-ready cookware. One reason I balked at moving to Induction was that the cost of buying All-Clad adds a lot to the picture. But the Henkels is GREAT, well priced, comfortable to use, heavy. I hate giving up my clay pots that I use on the stove top, but - all around, Induction is the best alternative to gas. At least I'll be able to keep using them in the oven.

Secondly, the temperature control knob is black as is the unit; you cannot easily see the position of the knob! I marked a few places on the unit with a Sharpie and colored the top of the knob so I could at least tell what was going on.

(More customer reviews)Having owned a 5 zone induction cooktop imported from the UK in my previous home, I was already spoiled and no stranger to the responsiveness, efficiency, and pure power of induction cooking as well as the different brand units out there. I was a tad nervous about plunking down $500 for a single induction burner, however, this little workhorse has proven to be one of the most joyously hard working appliances in this old kitchen being used exclusively now while the archaic smooth top stove sits cool and idle.
The heat settings on this unit are spontaneous and responsive with a range that will shame your pro-gas stove or cooktop for putting a perfect sear on a roast and boiling a large pot of water lightening fast, plus all settings in between that are dead on accurate as well as a setting low enough to be used as a hot plate. And all this can be done anywhere, even outdoors. What a concept!
I highly recommend this Viking cooker if you are considering bringing induction into your home and would like a test drive a unit that is truly top notch and representative of the genre.
***Important to remember with all induction cooktops is your cookware must be ferrous or magnetic. You can test your pots and pan bottoms with an ordinary kitchen magnet. Cast iron and enameled steel work wonderfully on induction and now there are many cookware manufacturers producing lines of stainless steel that are induction capable.

(More customer reviews)A complete and utter waste of money, the Rival BD275 double burner hot plate worked exactly half of one time.
I bought this because we were remodeling our home and we needed something to cook on in the temporary kitchen the contractor set up for us. Thinking a double burner hot plate would be a good and inexpensive solution for our "kitchen", I ordered this from Amazon who promptly delivered it a couple of days later. I plugged it in and waited and waited and waited for an interminable amount of time while the unit heated up. I couldn't tell if the unit was on because the light indicating power to the burner wasn't working, but I felt some heat rising from the element so, no big deal. Anyway, after about 15 minutes it got to a medium warm temperature, despite the fact that I had it set to high, and I started to cook my kids some eggs. I made it through two of the boys breakfasts when the unit shut down and wouldn't start up again.
The long and short of it: don't buy this piece of junk. It's not worth the bandwidth or even postage to send it back to Amazon for a refund. Rival should be ashamed of themselves for the lack of quality control in their products. Get a clue, Rival!!

At the present time, since there is very little demand for magnetic induction cooking, full stovetops are very expensive. However, one can purchase a single burner unit like this one from Waring Pro, and discover how wonderful induction cooking is!
This induction cooktop is super energy efficient. All you heat is the pan. Right next to it the surface is totally cool. Indeed, the only heat on the cooktop comes from the pan itself. After use, the fan will run for a minute or so to make sure the surface is temperate to the touch. Moreover, the cooktop will will not function if it does not sense a pan/pot on the surface (or the right kind of pan), and will shut off if the pot gets to hot.
When I first put my stainless steel pasta pot on it nothing happened. I thought something was wrong. But that pot bottom was not magnetic, and thus would not work with magnetic induction. You MUST have the right kind of cookware (it should say induction on the storebox - we use Circulon Infinite Infinite Circulon 10-Piece Set- or simply test it with a magnet in the store. Aluminum, copper, etc. will not work. Cast iron works fine, but the weight of cast iron could scratch the surface if you are not careful.
I find that whatever you cook heats really fast, faster than our electric range because there is no warmup; heat is instantaneous. Cooldown almost so. No waste of energy. Some fan noise, not objectionable, and some slight higher frequency noise when it is heating. Timer can be handy if you are not sure when you might get back.
We are really pleased with this. We use it on our kitchen island where you can cook with it, or keep something warm in total safety because the sides of the cooktop are cool to the touch. You would need some counter space to use it, and we store it easily by leaning it up against the wall under the counter so it is always ready for use. It cleans up super easy since it never gets hot!
This unit could also be used camping with an inverter, during a power outage using an inverter and a car battery, or in the backyard to heat the beans when you are cooking burgers. Many uses are possible as long as you can supply 1400 watts of power from your inverter.
There are some other models available from other manufacturers right here on Amazon, but I do not think you could go wrong with this unit by Waring. It is beautifully made - a fine asset to your kitchen. It would also be great for summer cooking as less heat would be added to your kitchen. Highly recommended!

I wanted a unit that would go with my darker granite kitchen countertop and the black finish on this item looks perfect. One thing that I noticed was that it was more light weight than I thought it would be . . . I am actually able to tuck it in an upper cabinet when not in use.
By far the best feature is the timer function. You can program in (read: really easily) the exact time you want to cook your dish. This is super helpful for pasta & rice dishes b/c it takes the guess work out of when it's done.
I'm excited to use it for the holidays because sometimes 4 stove burners just aren't enough. The portability will help too - it will work as a buffet warmer for my turkey gravy!

I read reviews and chose the Cadco, Portable Cast Iron Range, model KR-S2. When it arrived I was so excited. I brought my dyeing pots in and didn't have time to dye any wool. Instead, I made soup for a group and let it slow cook all day. There was a new start up smell but I never had any the rest of the day. It cooked consistently. I cooked soup several times before I finally could boil/dye some wools. It did marvelously. No start up smells, consistent temp's and the price was reasonable. I'll buy another one when I need it.
