Dimplex CFP3652C 20"Cherry Electric Fireplace looks awesome. The flame is way to dark and there is no controls to make it brighter. The heat it puts out is ok for a small space. Thats all it really is, is a space heater in a fireplace cabinet. The other problem with the Fireplace is it is noisy and can get on ones nerves. The motor in the back makes all kinds of noise after about the 2nd week of use. For the price i paid for this i could have gotten a pellet stove and been much happier. It cost about $40 a mouth to run and that is not savings when you can get a pellet stove for around the same price and save a ton of money and have a real fire place at the same time. Again its nice just priced way to high.

The Portable Smokeless Fireplace Heater by PurATron, BLACK.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Although there were almost no reviews avaiable I took a chance and bought this. I was not expecting it to be so loud when the heater is on since the description says that it is a realistic fireplace. Once I got used to the noise from the fireplace I opened the box to assemble the mantle. The instructions are a lot less than detailed, just some pictures, and I receievd more screws than listed on the contents. I dont know what they are for yet. When I started to look at the mantle pieces wrapped in thin white foam, 2 pieces were really damaged (piece #1 and #5)Where they were supposed to be nailed or screwed together they were just flopping. So Ive called govacume 4 times and have not had the opportunity to speak to anyone yet. The last 2 times I called it just rang until it disconnected me. I hope they will make this right. It probably wouldnt be that bad a fireplace if the workmanship and packing of the mantle were better.

Kero World KW-11F 10,000-BTU Indoor Portable Radiant Kerosene Heater Review

Kero World KW-11F 10,000-BTU Indoor Portable Radiant Kerosene Heater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used one of these for about 3 fill-ups now: about 36 hours of use. (I don't think it will ever be 16 hours on 1 gallon, but 12 is fine by me.)
It's flawless. It smells a very little bit at start-up and shut-down, but while it's running it's essentially odorless. And perfectly quiet (a very soft gurgle once every ten minutes or so when it needs to sip some fuel into some internal tank) -- and it puts out a lot of heat.
I have a room that's maybe 300 square feet with 5 big windows. On a cold night (close to 0 degrees F.) this thing can warm up that room by 2 or 3 degrees in 10 minutes, and maybe by 8 or 9 degrees in an hour. If you sit across the room and it's pointed straight at you, you can feel it right away.
It easy to fill up. There's a cannister that you carry outside (garage) and fill from your kerosene container with a hand-powered siphon. Worked the first time. This may not work if your outdoor kerosene container is too low, but then you can just use a funnel. The cannister stands up nicely by itself for filling, on a level surface (like a garage floor).
There's a little window on the cannister that lets you see when it's almost empty during use -- and when it's almost full during fill-up.
When you want to turn it off, you press the "extinguish" button -- the big knob in the middle winds rapidly counterclockwise -- makes a loud noise -- and the flame usually goes out immediately. Sometimes it may gutter for 30 secs or so before completely going out.
At start-up time the flame gutters a little for maybe 60 secs before the combustor starts to glow red, then the flame stabilizes and becomes perfectly quiet. You can't really see a flame except a little bit of blue -- maybe a quarter inch at the very top of the combustor.
It's very easy to start up using the little battery starter device -- you just push a red button, hold it for a second, then slowly release. I've done maybe 20 starts so far on one pair of batteries. You can start it with a match instead if you want to (or have to.) But the battery-powered starter is nice. The back and the top and sides of the unit stay COOL TO THE TOUCH after an hour of use. Probably indefinitely.
This gadget is an example of a perfect combination of high-tech (the way the combustion works) and low-tech (it's .... kerosene, after all.)
There aren't many things this good. Cast iron pans, maybe? And ... um ... windmills that really work ? I don't know.
I don't see how I could ask this thing to be any better.

Can't stand the smell of half burned kero so bought propane. Quickly heats up 1000 sq ft. Think of four high output burners on gas stove at full throttle and you can imagine the heat output. Very noisy, you wan't be able to work long in the same room. NOTE: HD sells the 40,000 BTU for $90. 20 lb tank is extra of course, and $20 propane refill should last 10 or more hours.

The Reddy Heater RLP30 30,000 Btu propane heater is a great option for the home user. For relatively little cost you get enough Btu to effectively heat a well-vented, medium-sized garage or workshop (up to 700 square feet). It's efficient, too, giving you up to 14 hours of heat from a single 20-pound propane cylinder (not included). Hookup is simple: just attach the included 10-foot hose and regulator, plug it in, hit the push-button ignition, and you've got heat. A built-in safety system turns the heater off if the flame goes out. CSA certified. One-year warranty.--Josh Dettweiler

Five Tips for Buying a HeaterChoosing a space heater is a matter of sifting through a bewildering array of types, power ratings, and fuel sources. Let's break it down a little to make the process easier.

What are the different types of space heaters?
Radiant heaters emit infrared radiation that directly warms the objects in front of the heaters (rather than the surrounding air). If you only need heat by a desk or in a small section of a room, a radiant heater is quiet and will use very little power.
Forced-air heaters use a fan to blow air that has been warmed by metal or ceramic heating elements. A forced-air heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but can be noisy.
Convection heaters draw cold air from the floor; the air is warmed by heating coils and emitted from the top of the heater. A convection heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but also can be noisy.
Radiators work by heating oil enclosed in a reservoir, gradually heating the surrounding air. If heating speed isn't an issue, you might want to opt for a radiator. These are extremely quiet and effective--perfect for bedrooms.

Should I buy an electric or a combustion model? If you want a heater that will be available in emergencies, or that can heat areas larger than a single room, choose a "combustion" model--one that is powered by a gas or fuel like propane, kerosene, natural gas, or diesel. Which fuel type you choose depends largely on convenience and local availability. For example, diesel would be appropriate for a heater you take with you on long car trips.

How powerful a heater do I need?Heaters are rated by BTU, which stands for British Thermal Unit (the amount of heat needed to heat one pound of water by 1 degree F). To find out how many BTU you need:
Calculate the volume of the space to be heated by multiplying square footage by height.
Multiply that number by 4 if your insulation is poor, 3 if it's average, or 2 if it's good.
The resulting number is a ballpark figure for how many BTU you'll need.
Do space heaters cost a lot to operate? As a general rule, electric space heaters are more expensive to use than combustion models. To ensure energy efficiency, a thermostat is a must-have feature for any heater. For radiant heaters, models with a 360 degree heating surface can heat larger spaces. If you need a forced-air heater, models with ceramic elements tend to be more efficient.

Are space heaters a fire hazard?Space heaters are implicated in about 25,000 residential fires every year. To ensure proper safety, always follow the manufacturer's usage instructions and fill out the warranty card to receive informational updates from the manufacturer. Also, look for extra safety features such as an automatic shutoff switch that can shut down the unit if, for example, it gets upended. In addition, choose a model where the heating element is adequately enclosed within the unit.

Heat Surge Fireplace with Amish Made Mantle Oak Review

Heat Surge Fireplace with Amish Made Mantle Oak

I bought two of these and spent almost $700 and I am VERY DISSAPOINTED with their performance. You can't even feel the heat unless you are about a foot away from the unit. I live in California where it doesn't really get that cold in the winter but I was interested in saving money on my heating bill and this thing won't even heat my bedroom. The mantle is oak plywood, not solid oak as advertised. The only good thing about them is that they look nice. The Amish are being used as a marketing tool to sell these fireplaces. All of the parts come from China and are assembled by Amish in Ohio, so don't expect good Amish craftsmanship because you won't get it with a Heat Surge Electric Fireplace.

Comfort Zone CZ7007 Deluxe 7 Fin Oil Filled Radiant Heater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We live in a large old home in Central PA, and do not have any heating source on our second floor. We heat our home with a pellet stove in our basement which provides a general passive warmth, and we have three gas cast iron stove units on the first floor, which are on a thermostat. Most rooms in our house have large 6 foot windows, our master bath has 3 of them. The room also faces west, and takes the brunt of most of the bad weather in winter, and is a veritable ice box, with no heat source. We use this heater in our bathroom, set the thermostat at medium, and it warms the room nicely. Our bathroom is about 10x10, with a separate toilet and tub alcove, so not a tiny room. This heater is simple to use, efficient, and we have never had a problem with it, even after several years of ownership.

After searching online for a more contemporary looking fireplace, I found this one on another website. I opted for buying with Amazon.com since I had bought from them before and never had any problems, and the prices were the same at both retailers. The fireplace arrived when they said, two days before Christmas and just as the weather was turning cold again so it was perfect timing. The fireplace was well packed with lots of foam and plastic surrounding the unit to give it more than adequate protection. I plugged it in and away it went-the flames look good, the heat unit does a nice job and the overall look is gorgeous. I have a black lacquer tv stand and this matches the modern look of the living room well. The quality is nice for the price and I'm pretty happy with it overall. The only complaint is that the pic shows a silver trim around the flames and mine arrived with black trim-not a big deal but it would have been nice to have a choice of one or the other. To me the pic should show exactly what you will get, not something close to it unless it says that. Having said that, I am pretty stoked with this item since it's my largest Amazon.com purchase so far.

SEI Mayfair Petite Electric Fireplace Review

This fireplace is awful. There were two sets of directions and each one contradicted the other. There is no way to secure the firebox to the cabinet. The grill door to the control panel does not close unless you want to constantly remove the firebox from the cabinet to adjust the heat and flame. I called the 800 for customer support and a automated voice system answered the call. It said that I would receive a call back during normal business hours. I called during normal business hours unless today is a holiday that I don't know about. Finally, the batteries do not fit right into the remote. I don't know if it works because the batteries which were sent are dead.
I have bought many things from Amazon and this is, I hope, the only bad experience.
While the cabinet looks cute (if you can stand not having the grill door completely closed); it is cheaply made. The heat production is adequate for a small room.

Heat Surge Fireplace with Amish Made Mantle Cherry Review

Heat Surge Fireplace with Amish Made Mantle Cherry
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got the Heat Surge today. I like the fact that this heater has a vent that blows out hot air rather than one that radiates it. The vent blows similar to the amount that a heating register would in your wall. You will not feel it if you aren't close to the unit. However, If you are standing in front of the unit it is very hot. The vent that the heat comes out of gets very hot to the touch. If a child were to walk up and touch it they could be burned. Much like any space heater make sure children and pets are watched around it. Another thing I found was that the unit is very front heavy. If it is sitting on a medium shag carpet it could tip over very easily. It is stated in the manual that if the unit tips over it will shut off automatically. A small child or pet could easily knock it over though.
I did find that over the hours I ran it, the temperature of the room was nice. It is also very quiet. I would say for the money you really are paying for a nicer look than a typical space heater and will probably work just as good. I also like that it has a remote control and it can be easily moved from room to room.
UPDATE: This winter my furnace's blower motor went bad. I was without heat for 4 days. I am so happy I had the Heat Surge. I don't know what I would have done in the dead of winter without it.

Mr. Heater 80,000 BTU Propane Convection Heater #MH80CV Review

Mr. Heater 80,000 BTU Propane Convection Heater #MH80CV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use the Mr. Heater 30-80K convection heater in my garage, which is roughly 625 SF with high 14 ft. ceilings, CMU block wall, un-insulated ceiling. During winter months of the teens outside, I can bring the inside temp of my garage up to 70 degrees within a short time. However, you may need to hang a box fan up near the ceiling or install a ceiling fan to circulate the heat back down, it puts out a strong trickle of heat in a 360 degree radius that is easy to regulate to keep from alternating between freezing and roasting.
The biggest plus for me with this unit it the lack of objectionable fumes as are produced by forced air kerosene heaters, the propane burns clean and is easy to purchase at my local filling station, no spills or lugging around 5 gallon containers of kerosene.
If massive amounts of heat are what you want, you should consider the forced air propane heater made by Mr. Heater. They put out massive quantities of heat in short order.
I get about 15 hours of use per 25 pound propane tank, the same type my BBQ runs on, by turning this unit on high and then shutting it down to low, alternating this cycle. You can use upwards of a 100 pound propane tank.
The unit is much smaller then I expected which is a plus, it is light and very well made and simple to use.

Fire Sense Fox Hill Electric Fireplace Stove Review

Fire Sense Fox Hill Electric Fireplace Stove

I love this fireplace. I did a lot of shopping around to get the best price. (hint hint) I am very happy that the construction is metal, not plastic. It isn't thick metal but at least it's not plastic! The only assembly required is screwing on the legs (which ARE made of thick plastic but it is not obvious.) It's probably better for the floor that the legs are plastic so there is no rust or dents. The flame, logs, embers, and log holder all look surprisingly realistic. I was skeptical before I got it. There are 2 heat settings. It gives off a lot of heat. I have a big, drafty bedroom and it heats that place right up, even on Low!!! You do not have to wait for it to heat up. Instant heat. Very quiet, too. You can have the flame on with the doors open or closed, the heat on or off. The "fire" is behind a crystal-clear glass panel. The heat comes from the bottom of the unit. In my experience no part of the fireplace gets hot except the very bottom where the heat comes from. I am not worried about my kids or pets getting burned. My cat sleeps on top of it. It plugs into a regular outlet. No special cord, no 220 line, no professional installation. Just plug it in wherever you want it. Sweet.

Dimplex Symphony Stoves Celeste Electric Fireplace Stove Heater in Cream Review

Dimplex Symphony Stoves Celeste Electric Fireplace Stove Heater in Cream
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Dimplex Celeste Stove is well made and a much better value than the cheaper stoves that are available.
The "fire" in the stove is realistic - especially the glowing embers. To a casual glance it looks like a real fire (although with careful examination the "flames" are not as realistic). The cabinet is very sturdy and gives a well-built feel. The cream color is nice and the finish is durable.
Note that the stove can use a lot of electricity - 15 amps when the fire, air filter, and heater are all working. If you have it plugged into a 15 amp circuit any additional load (a lamp, tv, etc.) on the circuit will trip the circuit breaker. Ideally it should have a dedicated circuit for its exclusive use.

Vogelzang Sentry Coal Stove Review

Vogelzang Sentry Coal Stove
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product is a typical very low quality example of poor manufacturing. The air control knobs had over a 1/4 inch gap so controlling the burn was impossible. I thought that perhaps I had received a faulty unit so I complained to the people who market this product, and they sent me a replacement feed door. The replacement had an even larger gap than the original. I thought I had seen the bottom of the barrel until I saw this piece of junk. Do not buy this unit."

Dimplex Free Standing Cube Stove in White Review

Dimplex Free Standing Cube Stove in White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After the date had expired for the Dimplex stove to be delivered, (remember, I didn't set the delivery deadline!)I contacted the seller who gave the excuse that all the Dimplex stoves were delayed in being shipped. However, once the problem had been addressed, I was offered a 10% discount which was to be credited to my card (it was not explained initially that it would be either a discount on the price of the unit itself or a credit to my account). I have not as of this date been credited (perhaps next billing cycle) but did receive the Dimplex stove in perfect condition within days of my inquiry. I was interested in a unit which did not exceed 1500 watts on the high setting as I was concerned any higher wattage would need a dedicated line; remember though, that most hair dryers are 1600 or more watts but we don't operate them all the time. I really didn't want the flame effect, just the heater which was a little larger than the small ones sold in major stores such as Wal-Mart, Lowe's, etc., but to my surprise, the flame gives just enough light so that I am able to turn off the lamp I previously kept on in the room where I have the stove. The blower is very quiet and actually gives a soothing noise which is conducive to sleep. I usually keep it on low but if it were really cold, the high setting would heat a small room or two if they were closed off. It is just enough heat to take the chill off cool evenings. I would venture to say that the heater would be a romantic addition to a bedroom as it is absolutely charming with its glowing flame effect and gentle heat. The stove is only guaranteed for a year, but then so too was a very expensive oven which I purchased for my kitchen and INDEED it was dead in about a year.... so don't expect TOO much from this charming stove for the money. I only wish Dimplex sold these in stores such as Sam's Club, Wal-Mart, Lowe's, etc., as it puts to shame the heaters/stoves they sell for less money, but who wants their utilitarian heaters/stoves junking up their home? To date, I am very happy with the Dimplex Free Standing Cube stove. As my husband states, "tell them in the review that the stove is lovely." (I can't believe HE said that but he really did!)
