I was not expecting it to be so loud when the heater is on since the description says that it is a realistic fireplace. Once I got used to the noise from the fireplace I opened the box to assemble the mantle. The instructions are a lot less than detailed, just some pictures, and I receievd more screws than listed on the contents. I dont know what they are for yet. When I started to look at the mantle pieces wrapped in thin white foam, 2 pieces were really damaged (piece #1 and #5)Where they were supposed to be nailed or screwed together they were just flopping. So Ive called govacume 4 times and have not had the opportunity to speak to anyone yet. The last 2 times I called it just rang until it disconnected me. I hope they will make this right. It probably wouldnt be that bad a fireplace if the workmanship and packing of the mantle were better.

(More customer reviews)I bought two of these and spent almost $700 and I am VERY DISSAPOINTED with their performance. You can't even feel the heat unless you are about a foot away from the unit. I live in California where it doesn't really get that cold in the winter but I was interested in saving money on my heating bill and this thing won't even heat my bedroom. The mantle is oak plywood, not solid oak as advertised. The only good thing about them is that they look nice. The Amish are being used as a marketing tool to sell these fireplaces. All of the parts come from China and are assembled by Amish in Ohio, so don't expect good Amish craftsmanship because you won't get it with a Heat Surge Electric Fireplace.

I have tried the so called twice the price heaters like this and they don't put out near as much heat as this one does. Plus my electric bill came today and it only went up 20 dollars. It has been very cold and I have been nice and warm thanks to this wonderful heater. It keeps my bedroom, Kitchen, Bathroom and den nice and warm. I thought about buying a nother one but I don't need one this one does the job. Although I want to buy one for my daughter to keep my grandson nice and warm and so it want dry out his little nose when he has a cold. That is another good thing about this heater it doesn't dry out the air. I highly recomened this to all my friends and family.

I opted for buying with Amazon.com since I had bought from them before and never had any problems, and the prices were the same at both retailers. The fireplace arrived when they said, two days before Christmas and just as the weather was turning cold again so it was perfect timing. The fireplace was well packed with lots of foam and plastic surrounding the unit to give it more than adequate protection. I plugged it in and away it went-the flames look good, the heat unit does a nice job and the overall look is gorgeous. I have a black lacquer tv stand and this matches the modern look of the living room well. The quality is nice for the price and I'm pretty happy with it overall. The only complaint is that the pic shows a silver trim around the flames and mine arrived with black trim-not a big deal but it would have been nice to have a choice of one or the other. To me the pic should show exactly what you will get, not something close to it unless it says that. Having said that, I am pretty stoked with this item since it's my largest Amazon.com purchase so far.

(More customer reviews)This fireplace is awful. There were two sets of directions and each one contradicted the other. There is no way to secure the firebox to the cabinet. The grill door to the control panel does not close unless you want to constantly remove the firebox from the cabinet to adjust the heat and flame. I called the 800 for customer support and a automated voice system answered the call. It said that I would receive a call back during normal business hours. I called during normal business hours unless today is a holiday that I don't know about. Finally, the batteries do not fit right into the remote. I don't know if it works because the batteries which were sent are dead.
I have bought many things from Amazon and this is, I hope, the only bad experience.
While the cabinet looks cute (if you can stand not having the grill door completely closed); it is cheaply made. The heat production is adequate for a small room.

(More customer reviews)The 3-D Electric Fireplace has been around a couple of years now, but the cost was still fairly high. Now, it has come down to just at $100. The 3-D flame has improved vastly over the earlier drum-light type to the point that it's hard to tell if it is real or not. I bought mine through Amazon.com, and was pleasantly surprised too, at the low shipping costs!
If there is a drawback, it would be that I will have to add my own stovepipe if I want authenticity, but that isn't a real big problem.
I am very, very happy with my purchase!

The "fire" in the stove is realistic - especially the glowing embers. To a casual glance it looks like a real fire (although with careful examination the "flames" are not as realistic). The cabinet is very sturdy and gives a well-built feel. The cream color is nice and the finish is durable.
Note that the stove can use a lot of electricity - 15 amps when the fire, air filter, and heater are all working. If you have it plugged into a 15 amp circuit any additional load (a lamp, tv, etc.) on the circuit will trip the circuit breaker. Ideally it should have a dedicated circuit for its exclusive use.

(More customer reviews)I own this stove. I also own the Dimplex electric fireplace log insert. Dimplex products are somewhat more expensive than others, but they out-perform them, and the company customer service really stands behind their products (they replaced the remote control box without argument despite it being beyond the 1 year warranty period). This traditional heater looks authentic, the flame function is a beautiful recreation of an actual fire - and the heater can literally drive you out of a 20'X 20' room if you turn it all the way up. As I said, I bought their fireplace insert after my success with this stove. It too has a beautiful visual effect and a capable, dependable heater. If you buy this stove (or any similar makes) you may want to consider doing what I've done: that is to buy four wooden "bun" furniture feet at a hardware store, paint them flat black and use them under the four stove legs. This raises the heater box (on the stove bottom) off the carpet about 2". Raising the stove a little higher givers a better appearance and provides more airflow through the actual heater making it more efficient since it can blow farther from the unit. As a final note I'm looking at the dimplex compact version for my mother in W. New York.

(More customer reviews)We recently added a sunroom to our home and wanted to try and extend the time we could use it with a space heater. We wanted something that not only provided supplimental heat, but also added to rooms decor. This little electric stove was the perfect addition. Its compact size was perfect since the sunroom had large windows and very little wall space. At only about 2 feet high it fit perfectly. It throws off some heat as well, although I'm sure in the dead of winter here in Boston it may not provide enough to suppress the chill. The kids really love the flame effect that it provides. It looks fairly realistic, but is completely cool to the touch, other than the small blower box on the bottom, so there is no issue with small children playing around it. You can definitely find less expensive ways to provide some heat to a cool room, but if you want something that looks nice and gives off some heat this item is for you.

(More customer reviews)This electric stove does warm my 12 x 12 bedroom adequately as a backup, but not nearly as quickly as my old Lasko ceramic heater, which was just too ugly to bear. The thermostat is a dial, located behind the door, near the floor. This keeps it out of sight, but a little difficult to reach. There are no numbers on this dial so one must set it by turning it until it goes on and maintains the temperature you're comfortable with. The on and off switches are also located in the same place. The flame can be turned on without heat, but must be on for heat to work. I took a paper and cut a template and tried to determine the temperature by placing my old Lasko with the digital thermostat next to it. That helped somewhat. Then I marked the template with what I was comfortable with at different settings - one for overnight. So the thermostat was a disappointment. The flames are pleasant, but the Vernon I bought is more realistic (though it did not have functions as advertised). The heater is very sturdy, and attractive. I like the bright red. I replaced the two bulbs (candelabra 40 watt) with 15 watts so I wouldn't feel guilty about burning electrictiy. Generally, lookswise, this heater is perfect for my Victorian style decor and I won't mind leaving it in the room year round and enjoying the fireplace any time. It will also make a cute table top to set my fan on in the summer.

(More customer reviews)I bought this item about Three Years ago We progressed from a wood burning fireplace, to a Gas insert ( really beautiful but expensive to use), "Down" to this unit. I would never have dreamed that THIS solution would be far the best.
Instant heat ( if you want ) , and a SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL, very realistic looking
"flame". After all this time using it I'm still tempted to touch the top to make sure it isn't overheating . It looks that real.
Recently I moved this unit to our Bedroom and put a Dimplex electric fireplace insert in the fireplace ( Dimplex Deluxe 23" insert ~ $300 on Amazon). I like it
very much, but I must admit I still prefer the "old stove" for the absolutely best looking flame. You can't go wrong with Dimplex. They are the Gold Standard for realistic electric fires.

Dimplex CS1205 Compact Electric Stove Review

(More customer reviews)Some critter got under the house and detached our heating ducts a few years ago so we only use electric heat and ambient heat from other rooms in the livingroom. I was looking for a better space heater after an Econoheat panel shorted and melted while I slept.
The problem with most space heaters is they are UGLY. They look like they belong in a garage. I wanted something that looked like a piece of furniture that wouldn't set fire to my cats and that could heat up a big room with open doorways. I should also mention that I have a humor-based decorating style, so whether someone else will find it tacky or not is of no concern to me. I don't invite people without a sense of humor into my home.
Anyway, I went with this. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being an orange spotlight behind a fan blowing white bits of fabric around like some Halloween decorations, and 10 being a real fire, I'd give it a 7.5. It only looks like a real fire if you're not looking directly at it. The foily logs help a bit and it does have a slight 3D effect that makes it better than some, but even if you add a crackling fire mp3 and burn wood incense in the room no one is going to mistake it for a real fire.
That's not to say I don't like it. It does provide that hypnotizing effect you look for in a fireplace!
Additionally, it was 35 degrees F last night. I live in a farmhouse with 4 inch walls and cellulose insulation. I put it in my livingroom, which is approximately 500 sq feet, with an open doorway, 2 large windows, a sliding glass door, no basement, and an open stairway. It kept the room at 72 to 74 degrees all night.
It seems to be of sturdy construction. The top stays cool. The fan is very quiet. It's also light and portable. Overall I'm satisfied enough to get another one for my office.
