Olvida 20 Inch Nickel Plated Cast Iron Double Burner Grill Review

(More customer reviews)I am writing this review with the hope that this will help further researchers. I bought this product that did not have previous reviews in amazon. I was looking for an option to cook meats (steaks, chicken, porks) in my apartment. I do not have access to an outdoor grill. I bought an electric grill some months ago. Altough it did a fair job (Zojirushi) I found the meet would not be evenly cooked: it would be mostly burned outside and raw inside or dry all over.
I have a glass top stove and my concern about this olvida grill/griddle was if this iron cast would be suitable for my stove (would it scratch/damage the stove top?). The other question was if to buy plain cast iron products (like lodge) or go for this nickel covered iron grill.
Well let me tell you I have been using this grill/griddle in my glass top stove w/o problems. Of course, do not pull/drag it once it is on the top (it is heavy and it would scratch the top). But if you a standard care, there should be not problem.
Second: this thing is heavy. Just keep in ming this is an investement for life. Although more expensive than other items made from steel, aluminium or plain cast iron, I would say the benefits outweight the initial price. We have noticed the meat just taste "better" when using this grill. for some reason is bringing to my tste buds some flashbacks of my childhood (my mother cooks with iron cast pans/grills). Now I realize that what you use to cook DOES MATTER. It has come to me as a divine revelation! Now I am switching all my cookware to iron cast (salvation army got my teflon aluminium leaking cookware).
If the nickle cover is worth the money, that I am not sure yet. I can say there is no rust and that you can scratch the grill with a knife or similar to "completely" clean it without causing peeling (hate that teflon!). If the cost would not be that hight I would buy the rest of my cookware from olvida. However at this time I am getting some ittems from lodge as well, that I consider a risk cause I know olvida "would just work". Being this grill the biggest cookware I will be buying I do not regreat getting the olvida, though.
The Zojirushi electric grill is already living from its 401k (retired) and the outdoor grills will have a hard timr to get my attention and money, as now I can get perfect steaks in the peace of my kitchen.
I can not wait to make a rice with chicken in my new iron cast pan.

(More customer reviews)I really wanted a pre-seasoned cast iron skillet to replace the series of 'disposable' teflon coated ones that I've been using, but when I recieved this one, I was a bit disappointed for 2 reasons. As someone else already stated, make sure you coat it well with oil on the first use. Even though I did, the eggs still stuck. Which leads to my second problem. The picture does not show the large gutter on the flat side. That makes it rather unusable for eggs, pancakes, etc. I tried it anyway, trying to keep the eggs away from the gutter, but they dripped in, and my fried eggs turned into a stuck-on long drippy mess in the gutter. I wouldn't even try pancakes on it. :-( It would cost more in shipping to return it than it costs (almost!) since it's so heavy, so I'll keep it and use it in the oven and on the grill, but I'm unhappy that that picture does not show that gutter. I'm going to order the larger griddle, but that one is going back if it has the same gutter!

(More customer reviews)I love my grill/griddle! Very heavy. I re-season it every time I use it to keep it nice and basically non-stick and rust free. However, had I thought out beforehand how I plan to use the griddle, I might have considered single purpose one sided ones. When I put the grill/griddle on the range burners, the seasoning oils on the bottom surface drip off onto my range leaving the stove needing cleaned. So perhaps for my use, since I want to keep the surface non-stick, it may have been better to have a separate grill and griddle instead of flipping the surface and burning dripped oils onto my stove.

Camp Chef RCB60 Deluxe roller carry bag Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this today, for my Camp Chef Explorer 2-burner stove, at a local sporting goods store. It came in a factory taped box. The bag is a little different from what is shown, mine says CAMP CHEF and SPORT GRILL in big red letters on the front. I think I like the plain bag better, but really, it's just lipstick.
The bag itself is made out of very heavy duty ballistic cloth and is lined in a water resistant vinyl. It has carry handles like the one you see in the picture on both ends, so 2 people can carry it. It has 3 inline roller blade style wheels that look like they are somehow riveted into the bag, as opposed to being screwed in... a cost cutting feature.
There are some skid pads on the back of the bag which will be good as you drag it up a flight of stairs. The zipper opens 3/4 of the way around the top side of the bag making it easy to get the stove in and out.
If you look carefully at the picture you will see that there is a curved area in the back of the bag, I thought this was for wheels, but its really storage for some 1LB propane tanks, at least that's what the picture on the box shows. My Explorer, I think, might be a smidgen too big to have room for the tanks. Besides, you'd need an adapter to use the 1LB tanks, which I don't have.
I also placed two of the single burner cast iron grill/griddles on the stove after placing it into the bag. On top of that I placed the wheel and windscreen bag. This item has 3 heavy duty velcro straps to secure everything nicely. Once I got everything in there I stood the unit up on the wheels and dragged it around, it works really well.
I wanted to get the RCB90 bag for the 3 burner units to give me some extra space, but the bags at the shop did not have the velcro straps... which are very important in keeping everything together.
I think I'll use the rounded area for the propane tanks to store a little tool bag with the miscellaneous hardware, hose, crescent wrench, etc.
All in all, this bag is very reasonably priced for what you get and how it is designed.
If it didn't have the big bold lettering, it would make a nice travel duffel too.

(More customer reviews)I searched for years for a grill pan that would function as a stove top broiler, leaving grill marks on meat and fish. They were available for all range tops, but mine, which has a smooth glass top. I needed an absolutely flat bottomed grill pan. The Berndes Milestone is exactly as I would have designed a pan for my needs. It has the broiler-like ribs in the interior, but a flat bottom for the stove top. The pan is no lightweight, coming in at 4.5 lbs on my digital scale. Even though it has a non-stick interior, I think it cleans up best if a light brushing of oil is applied before grilling. I've pan broiled everything from filet mignon, salmon, hot dogs, to Jaccard meat tenderized chuck strips and everything has cooked exactly as I desired.

Heavy Large Cast Iron Reversible Stovetop Griddle Review

(More customer reviews)This griddle is much more generous in size than any other griddle I have found. The placement of the handles provides a good compromise of cooking surface to handle.
Since it lacks that grease channel that most other griddles have, you gain that in usable cooking surface. You don't need a lot of grease to keep foods from sticking to cast iron, particularly the griddle side. Also, other griddles have a slight slope to them for that grease to drain toward the grease well . . . which means, lopsided pancakes.
The grill side is also more evenly spaced than other griddles and makes for great panini sandwiches.
The preseasoning was acceptable, but all cast iron gets better with age and more seasoning. All in all, a great griddle/grill and great price. I use it almost daily. Only regrets are that it's not a little bigger to fit better over electric burners and that it's not an American made product.

Nordic Ware 2 Burner Griddle 10-1/4-Inch by 17-1/2-Inch Review

(More customer reviews)First of all I take the blame for trying to get a very inexpensive griddle. This griddle is appropriate for camping only & is not suitable for big weekend breakfasts at home. The griddle is quite lightweight (again, great for camping) but slides all over the top of my stove while maneuvering food. Flipping a pancake becomes a tricky activity especially because this griddle doesn't have a true handle to steady it.
The reviewer that said this gridle is "big" must be cooking for one person because I don't find that I can fit much more on it than I did with my 11x11" griddle pan that I was trying to replace. My plan was to be able to fix a breakfast for 2 adults and a toddler all at one time so we could all have a HOT breakfast together. Instead I find that I am still eating last because I still can't fit more than 5 small pancakes on the griddle at one time, let alone bacon or eggs.
I recommend this only if you're looking for a small and portable griddle for camping/RVing. If you are cooking at home for 2 or more people then invest a few more dollars for higher quality and a larger griddle size.

I thought that the Nordic grill was the one for me...
It is a good grill in that it has a nice size and heats up very well, but the REAL PROBLEM is that it is NOT NON-STICK!!
I don't know what Nordic's idea of non-stick is but this ain't it!If you don't use some Pam spray on it and your grill any meat on it, I promise you IT WILL STICK to the grill! I made that mistake the first time I used it and I nearly had to sandblast the crud off of it and almost ruined the finish. Buyer beware.
