Lodge Enamel Coated Cast-Iron Skillet, Red Review

Lodge Enamel Coated Cast-Iron Skillet, Red
Average Reviews:

This handy little skillet is actually a HEAVY WEIGHT! It has the durability of cast iron, and the convenience of non-stick coating. I hesitated when ordering because I have had teflon skillets that would flake after a while, but this is not like the non-stick of old. It has a 25-year limited warantee!
Since I have an electric stove, it took some time to learn how to adust the stove because it retains the heat so well. I finally started turning the stove off the last 10 minutes or so. That works great for me. Also, if I'm cooking a steak, I sear it good on one side, turn it, and finish cooking in the oven at 450* for another 10 minutes. That's another thing I like...the fact that the skillet can go right from the stovetop to the oven. Careful, because the handle does get very hot, and also the skillet is HEAVY because it's cast iron, but it's a good heavy!

This is a wonderful skillet. It is nice a heavy which helps it to heat evenly. The handle is long so it doesn't heat up too much when cooking. Even with the pan on the stove a couple of hours the handle was only warm to touch. The small side handle does heat up quickly so be careful. The design is functional with the little spout on the side to pour off liquid and the swirl pattern gives what might be considered a "rustic" pan an elegant feel. Though it is preseasoned I would recommend seasoning it yourself as well. Great pan! - just be prepared for a workout, it's heavy! :-)

Lodge Signature 10-Inch Seasoned Cast-Iron Skillet with Stainless-Steel Primary and Assist Handles Review

Lodge Signature 10-Inch Seasoned Cast-Iron Skillet with Stainless-Steel Primary and Assist Handles
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have switched from a gas cooktop to an induction cooktop. With the glass surface the pans need to be flat (so they won't wabble) and smooth to avoid scratches. With induction cooking the pans need to be sensitive to the magnetic induction energy (i.e a type of metal that a magnet will stick to). This pan fits all these requirements. We had an old cast iron pan that had a warped bottom so would wabble and spin on the glass. Most new cast pans have a fairly rough bottom, often with insignias and wording molded into the cast iron that could scratch the glass. This pan is 100% smooth on the undersurface. We did not want an enameled pan since the cooking surface is also enameled, hence can't be seasoned, and the enamel can chip anywhere (and usually does over time). This is a solid, well built piece. The stainless handles stay quite cool during frying, which is a nice improvement on the standard cast iron pan. These handles look good also, and fit in aesthetically with high quality cookware (like All-Clad etc.). As another reviewer stated, it is a heavy pan and the second handle is a good idea. It is a bit pricey, but was exactly what we were looking for, and it will probably last a few generations.

Lodge Pro-Logic Pre-Seasoned 10-Inch Skillet

I've been cooking with cast iron for over 3 decades and now have more than 30 pieces. I ordered this skillet because of the sloped sides, but have come to love the shape of the handle as well. Add in the assist handle and this is an incredible pan. At 8 pounds, it is heavy, but that weight helps it heat evenly. I rarely prepare omlets, but fried eggs with cheese and salsa work well in this pan as does reheating food in the oven. The pre-seasoned finish is great, but clean it according to Lodge's recommendations, or you'll have to re-season it.

Fabulous for frying eggs or cooking pancakes, this 10-inch skillet serves up old-fashioned cooking with a pinch of modern convenience. Unlike other cast-iron cookware, which needs to be seasoned before it's used, Lodge's line of Logic cookware comes pre-seasoned and ready to go, saving time and hassle. This skillet is 2 inches deep and has a convenient assist handle. A Good Housekeeping 2003 Good Buy Award recipient, it is oven-safe and should be cleaned with a stiff brush and hot water.

Lodge Enameled Cast-Iron 11-Inch Skillet Review

Lodge Enameled Cast-Iron 11-Inch Skillet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this pan for several months now and had previously been used to frying with regular cast iron or stainless steel. I have a flat top stove and am not supposed to use my cast iron on it so I thought I would try this one instead. I've found that the interior is better than stainless steel for cooking certain things (like over-easy eggs) with a simple clean-up and minimal sticking. It's also good for reheating left-over meals, or making pancakes.
However, when I tried cooking things like sausage, or stir-fry meat, or with any sauces that contained sugar, I ended up with charred bits that would not come off. I tried boiling the pan with vinegar, or scouring gently with baking soda and nothing works. I did of course follow the directions and have never cooked on any setting above medium (usually, I use medium low). Then I made the mistake of frying falafel in the pan. I now have a permanent layer of caramelized oil on the bottom of my pan. Add the two chips on the handle that came off within the first week of use (and I am extremely gentle with this pan), and I would have to say I am fairly disappointed.
I also own the Lodge Enamel 6 quart dutch oven, and that item is fabulous. Not a chip or stain on it, even though I use it extensively. Also, I have fried up some of the same things in the dutch oven as the fry pan - with no sticking/stains in the dutch oven, but with permanently charred bits in the fry pan. Lodge should have made this one with the glossy interior.
Perhaps I'll replace this one with the 3 quart covered casserole since it has the glossy interior.

This 11-inch enameled skillet is great for cooking on gas, electric, ceramic and induction cooktops, as well as in the oven. Not recommended for use on outdoor grills or over open outdoor flames, nor in the microwaves. The use of vegetable oil or cooking spray is recommended for better cooking and clean up. Select low to medium heat when cooking on stove top, and never heat an empty pan. Use of wooden or silicone utensils is recommended. Lodge color-porcelain enameled cast iron cookware is cast from molten iron in individual sand molds. The porcelain surface eliminates the need to season cast iron. The cast iron vessel has superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating bottom sidewalls and even the lid.Tightly fitting lid seals in moisture. (Note: Lid is not included with this skillet.) The excellent heat retention reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking. Two layers of very hard, glossy porcelain enamel are chip-resistant and easy to clean. The black cooking surface on the skillet is matte porcelain, not exposed cast iron.Hygienic porcelain enamel is non-reactive with food.Although dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water is recommended to preserve the cookware's original appearance. 11-inches in diameter, this skillet is 1-3/4-inches deep.

Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 8-Inch Cast-Iron Meat Rack/Trivet Review

Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 8-Inch Cast-Iron Meat Rack/Trivet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all - it's Lodge. It's cast iron. It's American. These are all good things.
But I had to chuckle at a couple of the applications the other reviewers had for this handy little item. This isn't one of the first kitchen implements that you might put on your wish list, but it's surprisingly versatile.
Yes, you can put it in the bottom of your dutch oven, put your meat on top and let the fat drain. Yes, it's obviously a trivet. But I've also used it as a meat press - yeah, Lodge makes a couple of presses, and one of these days... but in the meantime, flip at upside down on your bacon and it works fine.
I've also used it as a grilled sandwich press. Put it on a medium burner, toss your sandwich in your skillet, or griddle, then (with tongs or welding gloves) plop this little trivet on top of your sandwich. A couple of experiments is all it takes to get the right amount of heat to brown the top of your sandwich. If you need more weight, put some water in a saucepan and set it on the trivet - the "legs" on the trivet keep the saucepan from cooling the trivet and your sandwich is nicely smushed.
But the weirdest use of all time? Olive pitter. No, I'm not kidding. I was making a salad the other night, and I wanted to chop some black olives into it. I grabbed a can of olives and opened it, only to discover that my wife had bought un-pitted olives. I hate pitting olives, but I started in, when my eye was caught by this little trivet and all those interesting holes. I grabbed the trivet, put an olive on end over one of the small holes and pushed with my thumb - the pit jumped through the hole and left the meat on the other side. I grabbed a bowl, put the trivet on top and went through that can of olives in no time. Hint - the holes are beveled, and the olives sit very nicely in the bevel, but they don't pit as well - turn the trivet over and use the "flat" side of the hole.
So there you have it. A kitchen gadget with half-a-dozen uses for ten bucks. How can you go wrong?

I've decided to replace my teflon pans with cast iron and this is one of the first ones I bought. So far it has been excellent. The large size is fantastic, though it's definitely heavy. My arm muscles are getting a workout! I'm glad I got it pre-seasoned, since that was one less thing to hassle with. I have found that cooking with cast iron makes food taste better. Kind of surprsing. I'm not sure why this has been the case, but my husband and I have both noticed it. I have to say though, it is very different than cooking with a regular teflon pan. At first I kept burning everything. Cast iron gets very hot and maintains a steady hot temperature. I'm finding that I'm basically cooking everything in this pan on med-low heat, where I would have used medium heat. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase though and plan on getting a couple more cast iron pans

Lodge cast-iron cookware has long been admired for its superior heat retention and even heat distribution, but now the company adds another enticement with its Lodge Logic line. All Lodge Logic cookware, including this generously sized 15-1/4-inch skillet, comes preseasoned via a proprietary "electrostatic" vegetable oil spray system and is ready for cooking right out of the box--unlike traditional Lodge cookware, which needs seasoning in your home oven before use. During the timesaving preseasoning process, oil penetrates deeply into the cast-iron surface while a high-temperature gas oven seals it in, preserving the cookware for generations and creating an attractive heirloom finish.
The skillet measures 15-1/4 inches in diameter and 2-1/4 inches deep--an ideal size for large tasks such as cooking a stack of pancakes or making a family portion of scrambled eggs. The vessel is also suited for roasting vegetables, searing steaks, or making quesadillas, as its cast-iron material delivers a smooth, consistent temperature without wasting heat. The pan's esteemed heat retention particularly enhances slow-cooking recipes that call for tender meats and rich, seasoned flavors. Chefs will also appreciate the durable handle with a loop on the end for hanging, along with the opposite helper handle that aids in transport--a necessity when cooking with heavy cast iron. And finally, the skillet includes a couple of side indentations that facilitate smoother pouring. Lodge recommends hand washing the pan with a stiff brush and hot water for best results. The skillet also comes with a lifetime warranty.

Lodge LCC3 Logic Pre-Seasoned Combo Cooker Review

Lodge LCC3 Logic Pre-Seasoned Combo Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
if you are just outfitting your kitchen, start with this pan. Especially if you are cooking for 2 or 3. The 10" deep skillet is one of the least expensive, decent fry pans available. You can do a dutch apple pie with the lid on in the oven, you can cook eggs, pancakes, french toast on the lid. If you are cooking for 4, and want just one fry pan, get the 12". Otherwise this pan does it all. Roast, fry, oven and stove top. The pans are tough, mine is going on 20+ years.
Downside, takes a bit more oil or grease than a Teflon pan, but then if you own a parrot you already know you can't cook on Teflon. Makes you wonder how good it is for the rest of us.

Get two pieces of cookware in one package with this cast iron Combo Cooker from the Lodge Logic line. It features a 3-quart base that can act as a deep skillet or shallow Dutch oven and a shallow 10-1/4-inch skillet/griddle that also acts as a lid to the 3-quart base. Cast iron creates superior heat retention, heats evenly, and loves a campfire, unlike flimsier pans. The American-based company Lodge has been fine-tuning its construction of rugged, cast-iron cookware for more than a century. No other metal is as long-lasting and works as well for spreading and retaining heat evenly during cooking. Lodge's Logic line of cookware comes factory pre-seasoned with the company's vegetable oil formula, and is ready to use right out of the box.
While both come pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, they work best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. After the meal is done, simply scrub the cast iron with a stiff brush and hot water, no soap, and dry immediately. Lodge covers the sturdy oven with a lifetime limited warranty against defects, and when cared for properly, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations.

Lodge Logic L10SK3 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own several Lodge cast iron products and use them everyday. I have 3 teeneage boys that enjoy cooking, and after they destroyed a few teflon coated pans, I decided I would go heavy into cast iron. These pans are indestructible. You can use them in the oven or stovetop, and if you keep it seasoned properly food will not stick. Also, to avoid sticking problems, you may want to remember to allow the pan to get hot before applying oil or food.
As to seasoning, the Logic line now comes preseasoned. But don't make a big deal about this. To season a cast iron skillet simply coat it lightly with oil and bake it for a half hour or so. I have also seasoned these skillets on the stovetop. Cast iron is also great because it does not easily scrap like stainless steel and aluminum pots. Aluminum pans are painful to me, as my teeth fillings react to the aluminum. With cast iron, you won't have this problem. I also take my Lodge pan camping and set it right over the coals to cook. No melted handles or scorched bottoms to mess with.

Lodge Logic L5SK3 Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron 8-Inch Skillet

I cook for myself, so this little skillet is the perfect size for 3-egg omelet in the morning, or veggie saute for dinner. I am a small to medium sized female w/ skinny arms, but this skillet is not too heavy so I can still lift it w/ one arm. It's not really non-stick because the eggs won't easily slide off the pan like they would from a good new non-stick pan, but it's much much better compared w/ my stainless steel skillets. As long as you soak the pan in water after cooking, by the time you finish your meal, the food residue can be easily washed off with a brush or sponge. I use a nylon dish brush with hot water and cleaning is very fast and easy. I never use soap or steel wool. Leaving a bit grease on acts like re-seasoning. This is the same way I take care of my carbon-steel wok. The only complaint I have is that the handle is way too short. The skillet is relatively heavy but even with my small hands it still feels as if the handle only fits half of my palm, so it forces your hand to hold it really close to the hot pan - really bad design. Though I use it everyday and find it indispensable, the short handle alone is why I am unwilling to give it a five star rating.

This lid lifter is better than the standard ones from Lodge that everyone buys. It may not be as decorative as the Lodge lid lifter, but it holds the lid much more secure...and that's what you really want in this type of product.
It has a little foam piece around the part where you put your palm, which is nice.
All you do is put the middle hook in the dutch oven lid loop, pull up on the T-bar with your fingers and the hook pulls the lid up tight against the three prongs.
Very secure. I just used it on my 7 quart Lodge Dutch Oven lid over the weekend.

Lodge Logic 11-1/4-Inch Pre-Seasoned Grill Pan Review

Lodge Logic 11-1/4-Inch Pre-Seasoned Grill Pan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I honestly cannot say enough good things about this pan. At first I was skeptical and a little hesistant about cooking with cast iron. Growing up in the south I knew the magic of cast iron cornbread made with fatback, but I also knew the special care that went into seasoning the beloved pieces of cookware. When I saw that this was preseasoned I went for it. I worried that it might be a lightweight pan and only sublime quality for the price but I was pleasantly surprised. This pan has a heavy weight to it and is crafted solidly. I've used it for hamburgers (they make the best I've ever tasted), grilled chicken, pork chops, and shrimp (YUM). Something I learned is that things tend to stick a little so coating the pan with vegetable spray is a good idea. Also, try soaking your shrimp in a mixture of butter and garlic before grilling it. I am in love, it hasn't even left my kitchen counter to go into the cabinet since I bought it because I use it so much. My husband being a Yankee wasn't used to the goodness of the cast iron but now that he sees how perfectly it browns meat while still leaving it moist he is hooked. With this pan I find the grooves to be so helpful. You can season the meat without worrying about all the seasoning burning to the pan. Also they're nice and deep so that the fat that does run off actually stays off the meat. Cleaning it is SO easy! I just run hot water into the pan while it's still hot from the stove then use a sponge or dish towel (NO SOAP) to wipe it out, rinse it off, and then spray with vegetable spray while it's warm before putting it away. I have to say that Lodge has a loyal fan in me. With quality old time cookware like this, without the hassle of seasoning it first you can't go wrong.

Lodge Logic L8SGP3 Pre-Seasoned Square Grill Pan Review

Lodge Logic L8SGP3 Pre-Seasoned Square Grill Pan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's cast iron, so you can run this pan as hot as you dare to sear the flavor in. Makes excellent burgers and brats, with nice grill marks but no burned spots, even when well-done. Try that with a George Foreman and your burger will be black outside and dryer than the Mojave Desert inside.
The square pan provides plenty of room to fry up a few burgers and the hot juices in the bottom are made-to-order for sauteeing a few mushrooms, onions, or peppers to go on top. The handle is fatter than older Lodge designs and quite ergonomic as long as you're wearing an oven mitt. Cleans nicely by boiling a little water in the pan and giving it a quick scrub with a stiff round natural-bristle vegetable brush and the hottest water that'll come out of the tap.
I would recommend this pan over the 11.5" one Lodge also offers because the thicker bottom, smaller sides, and deeper walls of the 10.5" pan provide fairly even heat over the entire grill surface. It appears that the 11.5" pan is based on the griddle of the same size, and my 11.5" griddle is hot near the center and cooler near the edges when used on a burner - OK for hash browns, but bad for burgers, grilled cheese, and such.
Excellent product; if you can't grill outside, this pan is the next best thing!

Pre seasoned and ready to use, this square cast-iron grill pan provides an array of convenient features. The pan's ribbed bottom keeps food up and away from grease for low-fat cooking, while at the same time making tasty-looking stripes across grilled favorites. To avoid what some consider the mysterious or time-consuming process of "seasoning" cast iron pans, Lodge makes the benefits of cast iron effortless. After evenly coating all surfaces with an electrostatic spray of vegetable oil, the cookware is put into an extremely high-temperature industrial oven, which bakes the coating into the surface. The result is a better-looking and better-performing pan than if it was seasoned at home. A hole in the pan's sturdy handle allows for hanging the item when not in use. The square grill pan measures 10-1/2 by 10-1/2 by 1-3/4 inches and carries a lifetime warranty.
